Thanks JToh so much for enlightening me . My dd got a B for HMT . Chinese is never her interest but I was thinking whether to retake If other subjects she able to do well .[/quote]Did she score B3 or B4? And is she confident of scoring an A in JC? I think it might be more worthwhile to spend the extra hours on her J1 subjects and take on H3 in J2. At the end of the day, your four core subjects, GP and PW are what matters most. No point spending extra time on MT, or even H3 if you can't secure As in your core subjects.
It depends on the scholarship. With highly competitive scholarships, the more As the better. Of course grades aren't the only component of your resume they'll be looking at.jtoh:

Thanks JToh
If applying for scholarships, is it must all A inclusive of higher MT ?

And if the student manages to get accepted into a choice university and course, scholarship boards won't fuss about a not-so-stellar grade in a subject that isn't relevant to the course chosen. (I heard this from a friend who until recently worked in the scholarship-issuing dept. of an organisation that issues a lot of scholarships.)

Your friend is totally on the money.

DS L1R5 after bonus points is 3.It seems this cohort is pretty quiet. I don't see much discussions on JC/Poly selection compared to last year.
:?
Between RI and HCI, which is a better choice? Is RI more of a pressure cooker and elitist? -

There's probably not a lot to choose between the 2. I don't know HCI, but my daughter is in RI - there is pressure, but it can be managed (if you have realistic expectations and are disciplined). I know kids who are at other JCs who seem much more pressured than my daughter. Elitism - yes, RI does have a certain sense that they are higher achievers as compared to other schools, but again, that can be a spur to greater service (from those who have more, more is expected etc.), not pride.

Anyway, RI's open house is today - maybe visit and talk to seniors to get a sense of what the school is like? Not sure when HCI's open house is, but very likely around now. -
