Many many?? From PRC and India? Only many many at NUS or same elsewhere?
P.s. of course I'm joking abt 50%. But it's really many many! -
Hi. I'm new here, since this forum is very active, I need reassurance. My L1R4 is 17. My net agg score is 15. I meet all the pre-resiquites which means that I don't need to go for conditional admission. My first choice is Science and second is art. Do any of you think I'll get in??? My friend's Friend from MI said that I'll get \"dumped\" into commerce streamm with my agg. Is it true????
:thankyou:
My L1R4:
English:B4
Pure Bio B3
MT:B3
CCA:A1
A/E Math/C6 -

Shouldn't it be L1R5 and not L1R4? Without knowing the 6th subject (humanity subject missing), can't really tell but I think chances for Science isn't good.Hi. That said (and let me very direct here), with your results (Bio: B3, A and E Maths: C6) are you sure you want to go into Science stream?! I don't think it's suitable for you TBH. If you get \"dumped\" into Commerce, it's really heng ah! A blessing in disguise. -
It's L1R4. And I really want to do science. It's cause I slacked in secondary school. I'm prepared to dedicate school life to study. That's just my gross agg. My net aggregate is 15 and that will be used during ranking.
plus, my friend's Friend also said that the commerce stream is **** up. I'm confused -

I can't tell you for sure, but I think MI may be open if you make a good case. Admit that you slacked, and promise faithfully to work hard for 3 yrs. They will probably make you take a test for the science and Maths subjects to assess your ability. All the best! -

You want to do Science because... you want to be a scientist? Or you have no idea on what you want to do, but Science stream is the only thing you know.
While I do not doubt your intention and drive to dedicate your next 3 years to study, you may have underestimated the challenges you will face in A level. This isn't just a normal standalone exam. Topics are built upon what you learnt in the O level and the signs here are your foundation in Science/ Math is weak (poor Math results indicate that it's not just an issue of slackness). In Bio, you are up against the creme de la creme of the JC cohort but if you are to take Physics, you are exposing your weakness in Maths.
All in all, the probability for an acceptable A level result from the Science stream is simply not high. If you are to spend 3 years in MI, you won't want to end up in the same place - good but not good enough to pursue the course you want in university.
In Commerce, at least everyone has a fresh start. And if the course is really f***ed up like your friend says, it's very good news for a dedicated and willing-to-work-hard student like you! The probablity for you to emerge with a solid and outstanding A level result went up by a few notches. A level isn't always about how well you do, but also about how poorly the rest of the cohort compares to you. -

thanks for the wonderful insight floppy. since son here is determined to go to MI, i hope he remembers he has to take ownership of his choice and his career path ahead.

Determination alone is not sufficient. Ability plays a huge role to compete with the best.

Thanks for all the advice. I genuinely appreciate it. I just want to know my chances. I put science as my first choice and itβs too late.

There are students who can manage O levels exams easily (only pay attention in class and self study) without working too hard and with no additional help. If a student has the ability and talent. Half the battle won liao. Not everyone study like siao for O levels but they can still emerge with Distinction. Not all the time u put in time and effort u get results. To study science ur brain must be highly analytical and can self learn. If everything needs to be taught during O levels, A levels is not for u. No one will teach u every single technique for A levels. You can ask the teacher 1 question to get 10 questions thrown at ur face. Harsh reality of A levels.
