Most prob there will be a change of plan. Unless he gets posted to one of his poly choices, we will appeal...he has decided not to go to MI because GP and MT will be killer subjects.
Janet,
Going into MI means that your DS will have to face his killer subjects over the next 3years whereas for poly, if he doesn't like one particular module, he won't have to face it again after 1 semester (6months). Maybe... he will have a more enjoyable learning journey in poly than in MI. -

This is a quibble, but MT can be taken in Y1 or Y2; few students will take it in the Y3. But GP is taken in Y3.janet88:

janet: I hope you're not picking MI for the sake of geographical convenience or lower pre-U school fees as compared to poly fees.
Thanks...appreciate.

If he gets in, do have a chat with him to see if he is willing to consider taking one or two commerce subjects. Earlier, floppy commented that everyone shares the same starting point for new H2 subjects like POA. I fully agree with floppy. Same for Mgmt and Econs (but for Econs your competitors come from top IPJCs too).
Put bluntly, MI 'monopolises' the bell curves for H2 Mgmt and H2 POA.

I feel it's less stressful to take commerce in that sense, as the top 10% of your ds' cohort won't be competing with him in the same exam. For Arts subjects, there'll always be that group of smart Humanities scholars from top JCs who'll determine how the Geog/Lit/History bell curve turns out.

feb 2 would mean we would have to appeal with the 3 choices which meets the cop.
it was a mistake to put MI as first choice…thinking that he would have 3 years but forgetting that GP will be a killer as well as sciences without tuition.
had a chance to talk to cousins over CNY holiday who attended poly and jc. with poly, it’s modular…finish and move on. 2 cousins who attended jc both admitted GP & MT are very tough. -

The fortunate thing is he still have time on his side. Plus the polys are very open to appeal cases or accepting students who meet their COP but may not have chosen the course in JAE. In the polys, course managers generally have autonomy over their courses so it pays to talk to them as you appeal. That said, keep an open mind and cast your net wide.feb 2 would mean we would have to appeal with the 3 choices which meets the cop.

Indeed. Now that we can access top jcs' past year papers easily, why not let ds have a glance at some past year GP questions and ask if he could mentally come up with a quick and dirty skeleton or bullet points for some pet topics. If a kid has not been reading widely in sec school, he will have to work harder with the help of his teacher over the next 3 years to pass his GP exam. As such, the poly route would be more advisable. -
floppy:
choosing MI initially was because we thought 3 years would be a spaced out period but really forgot that he would have to face 2 killer subjects and 1) not knowing what kind of teachers he would get 2) no money for tuition.

thanks so much for all the valuable advice. greatly appreciate. -
floppy:
I believe it also depends on whether there are vacancies in the respective poly courses as they would have been filled during JAE application.
