Hi P4 parents, is this Malacca trip opened to all p4 classes? Which subject is it related to? How many days? Has it been an on-going trip for p4? Thanks.

madragon, e3,
thanks for the replies re 看图造句 and sentence-making:) thought the all hypy bit sounded fishy. haha!
jennifer,
i subscribe to the \"not everyone's made for greatness\" belief but in the run up to sa1, am having trouble living up to it... at least in the assessment books dept
looking ahead, it will probably take superhuman willpower on my part not to pressure him to do any assessment books when it's his turn for the psle... for that i take my hat off to you. -

E3,
This Malacca trip is not for all classes. My son told me they have to write a compo why he should be chosen to go...he wasn't keen, so he didn't write anything. It's a 3D 2N kinda of trip. -

It really depends on the child. My elder boy can be trusted in his daily work to give me the assurance he does not need more. Cant say the same for my younger one.jennifer,

Just last night I went thr' the recent worksheets returned, I lost control and caned him on the palm for every careless mistakes he made. Can you imagine at P3 now, he still forgets to capitalise a letter when required or to not capitalise and missing his fullstops? Getting simple subtraction wrong for more than one qn? Upon qn'g him how it was possible, he told me he did not bother to work out the qn properly :stupid: And the OE compreh, using the wrong tense to present the ans even though I have on numerous occasions revised and reminded him to circle the verb in the qn to remind himself the correct verb to be used in the ans. Argh :x -

i can understand your pain cos my P2 is the same! even if he had circled the verb in the OE question, he still gets the tenses wrong! :stupid:
and to add, simple copying of answers from the OE passage or Cloze Passage with helping words, the spelling of the words also can get it wrong! :stupid:
his math workbook, have answers at working column, but no answers at equation sentence. :stupid: not to forget handwriting making him lose marks (eg 'fifty' write like 'fiftg') . :x -

ya, they requested to write the 'reasons' to be selected for the trip..E3:

it's 3D2N P4 Malacca Immersion Programme, visiting plantations, farms, orphanage, churches, museums.... -
Jennifer,
For problem sum Math, my son can copy the wrong number from start, so he is wrong right from start. :x OR else he will leave out units of measurement. For OE, he also makes mistakes for his tenses at P4 !!! For Chinese OE, he can leave out the important characters to get the necessary marks

Aiyo, Janet. You are making me losing heart. How hv you been dealing with all these?
jedamum, I can understand and close two eyes for a P1 and P2 (early in the year), but he was doing so much better by late P2. I was naive to think that he was cured
Anyway, I told him last night these:
1) dun come ask to play PC games unless you show me sch worksheets with no such mistake. U dun do your work properly, I will make sure there is no fun in your life (Very harsh hor?)
2) For your coming SA1, if I see such mistake, then it is either the cane or assessment book. Which do you choose? Of course he chose assessment book. Then comes my headache, what type of assessment to buy that can cure such careless mistake? Dun have right? Even drilling does not promise these mistakes would not occur becos it is highly dependent on the child to do his work properly. Hiaz.
Before he slept last night, I again told him he must learn to take pride in his work, that I do not need him to be promoted to CH or such. He said he would try to do better. -
Jennifer,
That’s why I am stressed out…this 1 month leading up to the ‘SA1 marathon’ is making me very tired and causing shoulder aches these few days. I am using the soft approach on him now.
Hubby knows & understands my stress more (esp now) bcos he is the one teaching Math. I reminded my son to circle all the verbs in OE questions, read the passage at least 2x, check as in RE-DO the entire paper.
I told him if he wants to enjoy the few days NOT worrying over SA1 results, then he has to put in effort NOW. If not, JUNE hols will be spent on assessment books and being caned. -

This is siong. At least I am offerring cane or assessment books. Yours both! Then again, your boy is already P4. Hm, maybe by next year if my boy is still like this, I would use the same approach as you. How to keep our sanity?
Then again, I must count my blessings too, only one child to worry about. The other mother has 3 boys, each giving her a different set of prob. I really salute her.
