2016 O levels (Kids born in 2000)

Agree with TA. Appeal to all the poly and try to get into an acceptable course under the IT faculty. If accepted, work hard and try to change course in year 2.
Continue attending class at MI. Maybe he will grow to let Commerce. It is an OK course and he just may enjoy himself. It’s important to build up friendships during the secondary and JC years. -
Janet,
You may consider letting your DS retake some of the O-level subjects as a private candidate while attending MI in parallel. By early next year, he could then opt to continue MI or apply his course of interest with his new results. -
So sorry to hear that Janet.
All the best for yr son’s DAE. -
When will DAE results come out?

If I am not wrong, her DS's result is enough to apply for his course of interest in poly although not in their preferred poly. The problem was they put MI as the first 2 choices.Janet,

Assuming the worst, ie not successful in DAE, I second lee_yl suggestion of attempting some subjects as a private candidate.Janet,

Obvious subject choices for improvement would be the 2 languages and 2 maths as the kid would still be doing these subjects in MI. With some improvement, he could be able to enter the poly of his choice next year. -
question is -
if Janet's son is already currently enrolled in Millenium Institute (Commerce stream) as a full-time student , will SEAB allow him to re-sit for certain GCE \"O\" level subjects as a private candidate , ie. he need only to re-take those directly relevant subjects that can help & enable him to improve his grade(s), so as to facilitate him to enter into his desired, preferred FIRST Choice faculty course of study next year (2018), at his preferred Polytechnic, since his interests lie towards Science & not Commerce ?
Turn to page 3 (Refer clause 2.1.4).
Read SEAB \"2016 Instructions to students, who are taking GCE \"O\" level as a Private candidate \", read clause 2.1.4 that says -
\" Students who are studying in the Government / Government-aided / Independent / Specialised schools are not allowed to register as private candidates.
Those who register as private candidates for GCE N(T)-Level, N(A)-Level, O-Level and/or A-Level Examinations will have their private registrations invalidated and their paid examination fees forfeited \".
Millenium Institute : happen to fall into above category

if SEAB doesn't allow, due to his current status as a full-time enrolled student at MI -
then her son can enrol for IGCSE \"O\" level subjects, as a private candidate.
How to enrol, under IGCSE ?
Need to call up \"British Council\" to inquire : when are the exam dates this year (2017).
Hire the best tuition teacher in town, for those few subjects, that he need to re-take.
at next year, (2018 February release of O level results) -
he will be competing with another next new batch of 2017 O level students (born 2001), for entry into Polytechnic.
entry into Polytechnic is so competitive, nowadays.
hi Janet,
in the course of his time spent in MI (Commerce) this year, in the event that he happen to grow to like Commerce subjects due to the exposure taught in MI, or start to consider his future career towards Accountancy / Financial Control line. If this happen, then perhaps let him re-take \"O\" level Maths subjects as private candidate, so that next year he can consider applying Ngee Ann polytechnic (Accountancy Diploma course). Also, check with the Principal in Commerce stream at the various Polytechnic : whether is possible or not, to skip to year 2 (Commerce course) directly in Polytechnic, instead of starting from year 1, from scratch, since he already spent Year 1 at MI. Find out all these due diligence homework background, before next year (2018) come. -
Does it really matter from which poly a person graduate? Will it affect employability or starting salary?
If her final aim is to get her DS enroll in local uni right after poly, does it matter which poly he graduates from? -
depends on which faculty of course, u are applying for, in the uni.
Some local university Dean for certain highly popular faculty courses, will look at which Polytechnic u graduate from, during consideration to accept Top X % of Poly graduates into uni courses -

So option not available if he is in MI.
