Some parents might think this will open up more vacancies to highly sought-after branded schools but I don't think that will be the case as these schools are likely to already satisfy the quota of 20% non-affiliated students.

Like I said before, they must have consulted all affect parties before arriving at this magic figure. This exercise is just to crystallize it to show that they are attending to the complaints. 🦆

Yup. Those 6 to 8 schools that Min talked about should be those with low or no COP. Definitely not in the same category as highly sought after branded schools.[/quote]What happens if there are not enough 'outsider' applicants to satisfy the 20% non-affiliated students quota? 😆

Recorder is not a DSA domain.

Then those people should push for it....and maybe electric guitar too!

Maybe Low Yen Ling was thinking of instruments with lower entry barriers that don't require innate talent. Harmonica, angklong, recorder, pianica and drums are good examples. Some students pick up CO and Band wind instruments only when they are in secondary schools. They have zero musical background. I don't think they are born talented. They just look at the numbers (for CO) and play the instruments.

          Hi all,

Can anyone confirm if the hast/gat are discontinued for this year…for schools like ACSI, RI? I’m a bit confused!

          Thanks

Agreed. I'm sure the Ps of those 6-8 schools are quietly smiling. Finally, the Minister has come to their \"rescue\". 🦆

I think most of them would be happy. However, in the case of ACS Baker Road, I'm not so sure. ACS seems like a case of entrenched principles in wanting their students to move on to the secondary section within the ACS family.

They can proceed to ACS International or SJI International. :moneyflies:

Any idea dsa application starts in April or May according to trend?

You can refer to the threads on previous year DSA. I find them quite useful. For DSA via sports or arts, the kid cannot change the cca for the next 4 or 6 years. Hence, need commitment and passion.

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: You don't say! Looking at some of the 6-8, don't think many want to go there also. :siam: Must say prayers every morning.

                  Highly doubt so.
The difference in COP between affiliated students and non-affiliated students is between 30 to 50 for mildly popular to highly sought after schools. That's a lot of gaps to close. The only schools with both COP quite close are Manjusri and Montfort, and it seems like their affiliated primary students wouldn't want to go the secondary section if they can.

ACS Barker is a highly sought after 'branded' secondary school meh? Not counting among those who mistake it for ACS Independent, that is. Anybody with T-scores of 250+ actually applied but could not get in? :siam:
Based on current MOE S1 Posting Exercise, assuming that there are 5 classes of Express stream in ACS Barker Road (i.e. 200 vacancies), and 200 boys from its 2 feeder primary schools opt ACS Barker Road as their first choice. All will then be posted to ACS Barker Road due to affiliation priority. This means that any boy from non-affiliated primary school will not be posted to ACS Barker Road, regardless of t-score.

From personal experience, a few years back, a friend's boy from ACS (Primary) scored 200 at PSLE got in whilst an 'outsider' with t-score of 245 could not, this was even after putting ACS Barker Road as his first choice. However, this 'outsider' was successful in his appeal after the S1 Posting Exercise.

Hi, you may check out the school's individual websites for the DSA exercise. Usually starts with School Open Houses and application period. I think usually starts around end Apr/May for School Open Houses and probably by end June / early July for DSA submission. But that was for 2016. Not sure about this year. You probably need to regularly follow-up on the school's websites for DSA info.
