I believe you are right. In any case, since it's advised to check with the school directly whether it will discontinue GAT this year, if it affects you, do call the school (or wait for its website) whether it will discontinue HAST this year.If GAT is to be removed, would HAST be as well?
it was not mentioned in the MOE
SInce both are tests that similar in nature in testing a child's ability in maths, abstract reasoning and language. -

Anyway, no point scrutinizing the numbers. It's not about chance but how good you are against the competition. If one is only so-so both acad and non acad, then definitely the chance also so-so
For specific domains where nationwide competitions are few and participation rates not high, mainstream students will not know where they stand against competition. There were quite many examples cited by parents in this forum. Consistent high 90s or 100 in school exams or even top in level in a subject may or may not get you a CO ... even when these students have something in their CCA or leadership or both.
GEP students are different, they take the same exams so they roughly know where they stand \"nationwide\". -

If the students have been scoring 90s, they should have no problem getting into an IP school. The issue is getting into the top 4 schools.Nebbermind:

Top 4 ?
I thought there are 5 in total? -

And what school did they apply to?Nebbermind:

My point remains the same, ie, it's not a matter of chance but a matter of competition. No point being so obsessed with those numbers....coz the applicants for each school and each cohort are not homogeneous nor consistently the same. -

If the child is in the top class in a good primary school, should he try to DSA into the R schools or a mid-tier IP school?
Therein lies the problem.

Knowing very well that based on historical trends, the child's PSLE results could well get into mid tier IP school but uncertain for R schools. As the DSA CO once accepted is irrevocable, should the child not give the best schools a shot? -
Nebbermind:
Since there is no need to be obsessed with numbers, then just release the numbers so that parents and children can make an informed decision.

The reluctance to share more information reminds me of the days when we chose our secondary schools blindly without the benefit of knowing the respective school's COP. -

If my child is in the best class in a good school or doing very well in a neighbourhood school, I will only DSA to the top IP schools or choose not to DSA at all. I do not want to subsequently regret if her results qualify for the top school but she has accepted co for a mid tier IP school. For DD1, we only applied for one school.
