Hi there! Iโm considering registering my Son to ACS Primary but would like to clarify one thing. From what I understand, there are an equal number of spaces for Phase 2B and 2C. Any excess applicants in Phase 2B will spill over into Phase 2C, but at that point, any church affiliation will be a moot pointโis that correct? And from looking at the schoolโs balloting history, there were only about 7 extra applicants for Phase 2B so I feel like going to the trouble of hunting down my old baptism record and joining a Methodist church would mostly be a waste of time. Anyone able to confirm or contest my opinion? Thank you!

Given that you are looking at Phase 2C, I assume you are living close to the school. It's not a waste of time if you consider the following reasons:
1. Phase 2B attracts less applicants than 2C because of the extra requirement - church affiliation or GRL. Hence, probability for success in the ballot is typically higher. Phase 2C is free for all.
2. If you are unlucky at being balloted out in Phase 2B, you can have another bite at the cherry in Phase 2C. If your only chance is 2C and you fail, that's game over. -
Thanks for your reply, Floppy. I suppose you are right--I don't know why I had halfway convinced myself that applicants in Phase 2B and 2C had about an equal chance of getting in. I guess I really don't want to have to go to church membership classes, etc.

FYI for ACS Primary, you have to live within 1 km, or you won't have any chance at all even if you're a methodist church member. In any case, of course your chance to get a seat in Phase 2B will be higher than Phase 2C where it's free for all. -

Dear All, I'm planning to register our son to ACS Primary. We are planning to join Methodist Church community (since we are both Christian anyway), to qualify ourselves to phase 2B.
Can we check if we have to go to specific Methodist church in Singapore, or any Methodist church will do?
thanks in advance for the replies

Hi. My hubby has joined SHHK as a member early this yr. If my child has to register for P1 in 2019, may I ask if we will get a recommendation letter from the clan? What are their key considerations? Thank you for your advice.

While the exact selection criteria is only known to SHHK, general belief here is that seniority plays a big part.
As a 2.5 years (2017 - mid 2019) member, your chance of getting a recommendation is really not high.
Best to plan for the worst. Good luck!
