I totally agree that getting into a good school or not the parents play an important part in their education. Likewise a top scorer in gep school might not be a geper. -
Those staying in the east, coming from respective primary schools, when offered GEP at end of P3 :
tend to choose Tao Nan (GEP) over Nanyang primary, because they are awaiting target to go to Dunman High (IP) Secondary school next time, as Dunman High is conveniently located in the east.
Dunman High also open up special Top classes, mainly to accommodate & cater to ( Geppers + Top Mainstream ) students, for admission into Secondary 1, while rest of the students end up in normal Sec 1 classes.
Geppers often prefer this type of special attention small group classes in Sec 1 and 2, to facilitate their continued learning, after P6.
They tend to choose Dunman High, because is conveniently located, and need to stay back often for a few times Cca, per week, being in Secondary school. Saving valuable time (Mon to Fri) travelling up and down, is precious.
However, there are exceptional cases, whereby students stay in the east will still choose Nanyang primary over Tao Nan : because with 250 affliation, NYPS girls can enter NYGH (IP). This is the main attraction or distinct advantage, for girls studying at Nanyang primary, only. No affliation for NYPS boys.
But, bear in mind that Nanyang school bus come very early in the morning around 5.40 am, to fetch kids staying in the east (Bedok, Marine Parade, Tampines, East coast, etc) to NYPS.
Over a long haul of 3 years (GEP P4 to P6) : if you think your daughter’s health can take it, waking up everyday (Mon to Fri) around 5 am, Transfer to Nanyang. Either this or you can make time fetch your kid personally daily to the school yourself, don’t take school bus.
I have a friend staying in Pasir Ris, who fetch her daughter to Nanyang (GEP) to and fro, both ways daily, come rain or shine, because she just want the brand name, "Nanyang". Not any other school. That was her mentality. Her working hours are also flexible, so she can fetch her girl both ways, to and fro, as she doesn’t want her kid to wake up so early 5+ in the morning, just to catch a school bus to Nanyang. Her daughter used to study in a small, not popular neighbourhood school hidden at extreme far end of Pasir Ris, but was offered GEP, at end of P3.
Otherwise, better to stick closer to nearer, more convenient Tao Nan. Saves a lot on travelling time, for those stay in the east. -

Err... This is the first time I heard studying in NYPS is not stressful.
I have heard of a gepper or 2 scoring below 250. But it never crosses my mind that a top scorer in GEP centre is a not a gepper. Has it happened before? I tend to assume that top scorers from a GEP centre must be a gepper.
Anyway, if I were you, I would go for ATS. If there is a need to subsequently transfer to TNS due to logistics issues, then by all means go ahead. I do not think students in ATS is any worse off to TNS (MS). End of 6 years, shuffle again when it comes to sec school selection. Another alternative, you may consider relocating nearer to ATS. -

Also heard NH very stressful...unless you uber good in math.

Who would want to move house becos of school right? I’m still thinking if I shd stay put at marine parade and let him take school bus for the first 2 yrs hopefully there is a chance for transfer to TNS. But I’m not sure if there is any bus to fetch kids from East to north and it’s going to be super uber early even if there is. Unless I go learn driving n get a car. -

Unfortunately, I don't think the official school bus covers Marine Parade. Unless you can work out the logistics, it's gonna be a difficult and challenging two years, which probably negates any potential benefits gain from being in the school. If you stay within 1km to Ngee Ann Primary, consider a switch if there's no ballot in Phase 2C for them.....
I'm still thinking if I shd stay put at marine parade and let him take school bus for the first 2 yrs hopefully there is a chance for transfer to TNS. I think it's arguable whether one should move house closer to children's school because some parents I know actually do that. If you move to Bishan, you can also waitlist Catholic High, with its affliation to sec school. Since you think waiting for TNS will take ages, why not consider relocating? After all, many good schools (RI, Cath High, EJC...) are in Bishan.
If you need to buy a car to send/fetch your boy to Aitong from Marine Parade, then you might want to consider Floppy's suggestion, that is, to register for Ngee Ann primary and be on the waitlist for TNS. My friend was on waitlist at TNS and he waited for 2years.

If we are to enroll my son in Ngee Ann Primary then my hubby will say it doesn’t make sense he goes join the alumni and waste money. I’m pretty sure there is no balloting in phase 2C for Ngee Ann primary. We are staying ard Ngee Ann Primary, TNS and St Patrick but to give up ATS over Ngee Ann Primary or St Patrick don’t think it’s worth it when so many pple are trying to put the kids in.
Catholic high is very hard to get in and if we alr had a gurantee place at ATS then no point to consider Cath high.
Lee_yl your friend kid got into TNS after P2? Our take now is to rent a place ard ATS first and see how things go. If can get into TNS at least we can move back orelse just stay put at bishan.
