Something to check with u. RA is not the same as H3 rite? I suppose those who take RA should ideally take H3 as well (if their core subjects are strong). But for students who don't take RA, if they want to challenge themselves, how do they prep for H3?

Jumping in here as my daughter takes RA and H3 (for different subjects, though) - RA means that they do advanced stuff during curriculum time, but take the same exams as for H2. It's an internal thing. It will mean that they will be in classes with students doing the same RA subject in Y5-6 for timetabling purposes. H3 is an additional A level paper and results will appear on the A level cert. Lessons are outside normal curriculum time in the Y6 year.

I don't think there is any reason to specially prep for H3 before Y6. If the student gets into an H3 subject (based on Y5 results), he will have to attend the lessons and do the reading/assignments etc. Many RI students take H3 without being in RA, and some (many?) take RA and H3 in different subjects. Some students are really interested in one subject - like one of my daughter's classmates who takes RA, H3 and is in the Olympiad team for the same subject! But my daughter decided that RA and H3 in the same subject would be too much of a good thing.

For me, it's interesting to know that there are students who don't take H3 subjects based on their RA subjects. Come to think about it, what u said made sense. The RA subject class typically has only 20 students, but I'm sure more than that number take the subject at H3 level in RI.

I thought so too initially, but my daughter wasn't that interested in the H3 content for her RA subject. I believe that going with interests is important, and since my daughter is the kind with wide interests, so I told her to choose whichever H3 she thought would be the most interesting. Unless the student is really interested in a single subject, Y6 can be quite a drag if it's all about that subject. I think about half of her class is doing an H3 that is different from their RA subject.

I know RA & non-RA students sit for different papers in Y3/4. Do they sit for the same papers in Y5/6 ?

NO preparation needed for H3. Students are selected based on their Y5 results. DS qualified for all subjects but chose the one he enjoyed most.

I don't know about Y3-4 as my daughter didn't take RA in those years. And I don't know whether RI and RGS do things the same way. For Y5-6, all students take the same papers for H2 subjects, and that's what really counts. I think some RA subjects have an additional exam, and they have some different tests now and again, but they don't count towards the overall results, and I don't even know if the results get reported anyway.

I can't remember exactly what the qualifying criteria for H3 is - something like B in the subject itself, and nothing lower than C in other subjects? The idea is that the student should be reasonably strong overall otherwise it would be better to focus on the H2s.

@ ngl2010.. NAPFA was held beginning of Term-2. IPPT will take place 1st week of May.
