my trip was a last min impromtu one so i dun have the time to plan so we just follow that the agency gave us and mark them on GPS in advance but issue with it is the agency booked on for 2 night stay in 1 location so no choice got to do back and fro day trip which i find a waste of time.ptb7476:
i will definitely go back again but will comb via the moutainous route aka alp to austria / prague / czech republic next time but i will do my research and plan my own route cos the agency itinerary had us wasted so many back and fro driving trip to hotel
thanks for the update
very useful info about the places
you could have done a check on the routes to potentially saved time on back tracking
I usually use http://www.viamichelin.com to plan route and eating places, especially when they highlight those michelin-starred restaurants on a route between points -

If you want to visit Austria, Prague and Czech, I recommend a River Cruise rather than drive. River cruises are my fave now. Have been on 2 so far and love them. Just this June, we flew to Prague stayed 3 nights and then joined a river cruise with embarkation from Vilsofen, Germany. Then we cruised down the Danube for 7 nights with stops and sightseeing at Passau in Germany, Melk, Durnstein, Krems, Linz, Vienna and Salzburg, in Austria, Bratislava in Slovakia and finally ended in Budapest in Hungary. The beauty of taking a river cruise is that there are no long drives as the ship moves during meal times or when you are sleeping. Time is not wasted. As early civilizations springs from rivers, many charming medieval towns and Unesco heritage towns and cities are along the river.
Wow sounds sooo wonderful!! Do you book your River Cruise locally there or online from Singapore? Would you have the name / agency from which you booked your June cruise? Definitely going to do some research on this! Do you think Dec is a good time to go on such a cruise? Thanks!! -

I went with Amawaterways. Just google \"Amawaterways\".What you can do is send an enquiry through the Internet and they will get a USA agent contact you. Then your communicate through email and pay with credit card. It is charged in USD. This is what I did this yr. Last year, I used Stamford travel in Singapore but they charge me in SGd and gave me lousy exchange rate. That's why I decided to go direct through USA this year. Several agencies in Singapore can book river cruises but I notice that they normally do for Uniworld, Viking or some others. Through my discussions with cruise mates from the US these last 2 trips, all told me AMA is better with nicer and newer ships.Dnls_mum:

This same itinerary that I took has a winter Christmas markets version. It is very cold but that season there are many traditional Christmas markets in the various towns and has a special Christmas atmosphere. I think it will be cold but Christmas period is probably very pretty too. A traditional white Christmas in the old world.
The tour I took last year was to Netherlands and Belgium during spring for tulips viewing. That was beautiful too. A colleague is going on this tulp time cruise next yearn my recommendation. He booked with Honeyworld Travel and they allowed him to pay with USD bank draft.
There are always different places and things to see in diff seasons. Have fun researching! -

This is really diff from Star Cruise. This is itinerary intensive (all land tours included in the package price) and much more high end in terms of food and wine served then Star Cruise. The cruise is just a mode of transport to visit lesser known medieval towns and a hotel to sleep in. It takes away the hassle of packing and unpacking which plagues all European road trips.

I went star cruise once and will never go again.
I hope to go on another river cruise with AMA soon :please: if hubby willing to part with money :moneyflies: hehe.
But then, traveling is so personal, if not sure better don't do it. Otherwise spend money then still no shiok

i guess so ... actually i think i dont like it too... cos we will be confined on board ...and everything dependent on the cruise captain. however if we are driving we can stop as and when we like if we see anything interesting
