I do agree that a student can receive better attention from the teachers if the class size is smaller. Somehow I have a feeling that the student-teacher ratio of 10:1 seems to be an "ideal ratio" if not a protocol for JCs, of course I may be wrong. I do not have the enrolment data of any JCs, however, I remembered a ST article where the previous NYJC principal shared that each cohort usually had about 710 students. This number has apparently been reduced in recent years as the 2016 cohort only had 671 students (as shared by a parent) probably owing to declining population. I counted 148 teaching staff excluding the P/VPs from NYJC website, thus this would work out to a student-teacher ratio of 9.5:1 (using 700 students per level). I also did a count of teaching staff strength for AJC (147) and IJC (123), if AJC has 700 students per level and IJC 600 students per level, then the students-teacher ratio will also be around 10:1. As for other schools that had declared the 2016 cohort size, their staff listing are not found on the school websites.

As for tuition, think most students/ parents treat it more like an insurance to secure the "A" grade. As long as we have the ks mentality, think the tuition trade will thrive. I learnt from sharings in KSP that there are JC students who do not attend tuition as well.
Any idea how much or what is the school fee like in RJC?

        $300/month

Thanks mindays. Not many mid income families are able to afford such school fees.
RI fees is $325 per month, not $300 (as stated by mindrays). Most students have EESIS of $200 per month, so they pay only $125 per month.

$300 per mth school fees is ok, think about it, we used to pay like ~$800-1k for childcare fees for so many years??

In comparison, $300 is much more affordable than preschool days…

Depends on your income bracket, I guess. Many can't afford $800 for childcare fees.

Expensive education fees does not always equate to good education. A lot still depends on the child's own attitude. I have a neighbour whose son was from a neighbourhood Sec school and did well enough to study Medicine now.

Willing to pay and able to pay is totally different.
For some families, after providing for basic needs, there may be nothing for them to cut back on or 'wait'.

I am not referring to tuition fees, I am talking about school fees, that's why I mentioned that neighbourhood schools are also capable of producing good students. I am paying the $125/mth school fees myself but I can see that son's attitude makes a greater impact as compared to the school. Same school, same teacher, but outcomes can be quite varied amongst his classmates. My kids have no tuitions too.
