i know st nick is totally out since it's so hot and we have no piority for it.

so i am looking at either CHIJ toa payoh (which is outside 2km) or CHIJ our lady of good counsel (which is between 1-2km). can anyone advise the chance of getting into CHIJ TPY if i do PV? and how good is CHIJ OLGC? failing which, i am also looking at marymount convent which we are just at the 2km (2.009km).

http://media.photobucket.com/user/Burzuk2/media/Emoticons/smiley/ybs-28.gif.html How did you manage to get so specific distance? For your information, if your house is really 2.009 km from the school, your child will be under the > 2 km category, not \"just at 2 km\".

You should use the School Query function in onemap to determine which category your child will be at, rather than measure the distance.

CHIJ TPY does not accept PV. PV are formed by parents whose daughters are already enrolled into the school. If you are more than 2km, very likely you might have to be go through balloting.

Sorry, CHIJ TP does not need PVs which makes u eligible for only Phase 2C. They ballot at <1km in Phase 2C. No chance at all, assuming you are citizen. Only way to get into Phase 2B is to go grassroots route but you must volunteer at the RC which is in the same constituency as the school (Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC). Meaning you gotta live in this GRC.

Think you better look at OLGC or Marymount. You stand a good chance at OLGC. Please go to OLGC thread in parents networking section or Serangoon Primary Schools thread. OLGC is a nice cosy place, girls are well-behaved. Standard is similar to CHIJ OLN. Affiliated to St Joseph’s convent. Marymount has no secondary affiliation.

Use onemap.sg and look under School Query. Then look for your home. If your home is in blue, then you are within 2km. If not coloured, then outside 2km. The schools will use this to determine your distance.

                Hi,

Is there any opportunities to further my child’s piano interest at CHIJ Kellock (such as opportunities to perform at school and public functions)? I checked the school website related to performing arts - the String Ensemble is pretty active. I don’t see any Piano Ensemble…

i am really keen to get my girl (2009) into my ala mater (good counsel) but my husband is not happy as the school bus trip will be long, since we are staying in punggol. plus my boy is a dragon baby so not having a sibling and the birth spike will likely be a big problem come his time. i would like to send my children to missionary schools if i can help it, even if my husband is keen to send my girl to a co-ed school. holy innocent fits his criteria, co-ed, near, good school and for me, missionary but it is so hard to get in… any thoughts, anyone? need fresh minds and train of thots to provide new perspectives.

I am from HIPS. My parents chose that sch for me because its within walking distance, for convenience sake. But my younger brother didn't enter that sch. He went to a boys school, following my elder brother. And I wonder, why didn't she opt for me to go IJ nativity, which was nearby too. Growing up, I want to be in IJ, but never had the chance.

Now come my turn for my only daughter, I would like her to go all girls school instead of co ed, even though I have two younger boys. I had already planned, they will go to the same boys sch as my brothers. In a way, I also hope to pass down the tradition where my grandchildren will go to girls and boys school using phase 2A. I have not consider sending her back to hips, for distance reason. S

How high is your chances to gt in hips? Is it in 2c? Do u intend to pv?
I would say alumni IJ is a bonus to secure a place. Just that the distance is an issue and also u have to consider abt ur son enrolment next time.

I am like u! if i have can my way, my girl will go to good counsel, straight entry as i am non paid alumni member. my boy will ideally go to st gabriel’s or maris stella, though only as catholics. all these schools, including hips, are definately >2km. hips being the closer school to me in distance.

i am totally clueless right now, i can’t decipher the statistics re % balloting, % chances getting into schools etc. quite overwhelming and i am still slowly trying to digest the infor. i only managed to grasp being Catholic, and the alumni, and distance bit for now. embarrassing. coz i was taken up emotionally with transferring my girl out of her pre nursery the entire of this yr.

i can do pv as i am not working. or even grass roots.

Your case is quite simple actually, the only one you need to convince is DH. Since you are SAHM, you can volunteer to ferry the kids, then you can have your way and send gal to OLGC and boy to St Gab. St Gab is very safe for you as it has places even up to Phase 2C Supplementary. For many Catholics, having the kids in different mission schools is a normal thing. I don't see anything inconvenient about it.

But if your DH really wants to try for HIPS, then you can go via Phase 2B (Catholic) but may have to ballot since you are >2km.

For the mission schools, you won't need to do any grassroots work nor PV coz Catholics already get into Phase 2B.
