      Hi,

Just wondering if the girls can wear any white socks or must it be the one labelled CHIJ?
Also, are the \"CHIJ\" socks only avail at Shanghai Uniform Shops?

      TIA for any info
asked my daughter the same question. she told me can only wear socks with CHIJ, which can be bought from school bookshop.

Hello, I am new to this forum. Would like to check if anyone has any information about CHIJ TP in terms of their approach towards academics as well as nurturing the girls?

In addition, how is the school’s focus on Tennis? My daughter has been playing tennis and she is keen to pursue tennis if she qualifies for the school based on results.

there is a holistic approach where academics are concerned. teachers are rather patient towards the girls' learning and they keep parents in the loop where syllabus is concerned.

girls being girls, parents still have to monitor them. i have to remind my daughter to sit properly even if it is an all girls' school. there are consent letters where are excursions.

Hi all, I am currently a secondary 1 student from CHIJ Toa Payoh and I have my stories to share. As a student in the top classes 1/1 - 1/3, I must say that we have good teachers. However, there is the first class teacher for Chinese who does not teach well and the other classes have surpassed the first class in the topics that they have learnt.

I must say that if you/your daughter is from the primary school and end up in 1/4 - 1/5, you will learn D&T and home economics that we do not learn. It is a disadvantage for us in the long run. For students in 1/3 - 1/5, as majority are from the primary school side, they actually have form teachers that teach English, Math, the main subjects etc. and therefore meet the students more and can contact the students more often. (The school treats those from the primary side well. Kind of.) I find myself unable to see my teacher for a few days when I need to contact her about something urgent.

If I were to talk about the school system, they make students \"know their place\". If they are in the bottom classes, academics are not focused on, rather, hands on classes.
Also, the school changes the timetable every term so students that have extra curricular activities outside the school have a hard time managing their time and sometimes have to leave school early, missing out on important things.
The school, also, has a \"Student Forum\" that addresses student issues. Though that might sound amazing, you might think that the school cares for their students, but in fact it is a facade. They tell us that \"changes take time\" which is a code language for \"we don't really care\".
The school does not allow phone use during recess, which might be good. It might be the school's only good point.

I do understand that mothers from the school want to send their students to their alma mater but you must consider that times have changed, including the school's system.
So please bear this in mind.

A plus point about this school is that there is a really good lower secondary Science teacher. She strives to teach us more and even prints out extra worksheets to go in depth about that topic. She's good.

You might wonder why I chose this school if I have complaints about it. No one I knew went to this school. So judging solely based om the CCA choices and the PSLE cut off point, I chose it.

And yeah, this school was my third choice. I have thought about transferring to my first choice school in secondary 2.

Thanks you for reading till here. :congrats:
                I hope this helps.

Tennis is not bad in IJ! We win most of the competitions & plus point, all Tennis girls are extremely athletic! I have two classmates who are in Tennis, and they are able to run so fast during track meets and all.

daughter is in NA. academic wise, her teachers do care for the girls. there is a google classroom where the teachers upload what is taught and what will be tested. i have downloaded into my mobile phone.

it keeps us parents updated what is going on.

these few weeks, the principal has allowed to let the girls wear school tees instead of the blouse as the weather is rather warm…so i have less to iron.
