I’m sorry. This whole exercise is really strenuous… how do we prepare for backup schools for phase 2CS?

The exercise is strenuous only if you have set your eyes on a particular school and die-die wants that school. If you go with the flow (and psycho yourself that every school is a good school), it's actually not that bad.
You can refer to past balloting history here: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/singapore-primary-1-registration-school-balloting-history/ -

If you believe every school is a good school, choose the nearest school with no balloting. For DD1, we were 1 km from South View and Choa Chu Kang. I opted for Choa Chu Kang which does not require balloting and is just opp my place. It was only a one day exercise.yc_mw:

I agree. If you want to avoid the rush, just choose nearby schools that don't require balloting. There are many such schools in Hougang and Serangoon area. I don't think they're bad schools, just not as popular as Xinmin or Rosyth.yc_mw:

Vacancies per phase updated

Thx for informing! The link is here:
https://www.moe.gov.sg/admissions/primary-one-registration/vacancies -
We have completed our first analysis of the vacancies allotment. It can be found https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/preview-of-2016-p1-registration/.
To recap, 7 schools have been merged (ie. closed down) into the remaining schools, with only 1 new school created to support the growing pool of children in Sengkang. So there will be less choice of \"neighborhood schools\" for those looking for a fuss free Registration exercise.
What is more worrying is that the number of vacancies granted by MOE this year is actually LOWER than the birth rate of the cohort in 2011, by about 404 places! Yes. There are 404 more babies born in 2011 than places offered to them in 2018's Primary One. This is a first, or at least since we started tracking the data back in 2006. Only 2 of the merged schools actually have their enrollment numbers increased by 1 class each, the other 5 were not given any increase at all.
This looks to become a rather competitive registration exercise given the lower number of vacancies. Let's hope that MOE's projection is correct. -
This is shocking news! There is a shortage of places for the first time known in (KSP) history? Where will the extra 404 kids go? Does it mean there are not even any places left for them after phase 3?

We have no idea. Perhaps they were children born to foreigners who left the country. Or maybe their Singaporean parents migrated to other countries. -

We just checked our numbers again. The data is http://www.tablebuilder.singstat.gov.sg/publicfacing/createDataTable.action?refId=3733. While it is true that total life births in 2011 is 39,654, the actual life births to residents is only 36,178. So there should still be plenty of places left for SG citizens and PRs. So most likely the impact is on foreigners. They have really closed the floodgates to foreigners.zac's mum:
