2017 P1 Registration Exercise for 2018 In-Take
-
Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and hope to get some help from the experienced parents here.
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/event/2016-p1-registration-phase-2c/
1) For the link I have attached, what is the meaning of Day 1/2/3? I thought the balloting is based on all those who registered online and over the 3 days at the school itself?
2) We are thinking of registering at PMLGS but we are SC >2km. According to last year's stats, it was only oversubscribed by 105% for >2km. But I'm aware that it was a tiger year so there were possibly fewer girls. Do u think we'll be taking a high risk? If we don't get in, we probably have to do 2Cs at a new school in Punggol which my hubby is strongly not in favour of. The alternatives are (a) Fairfield (Phase 2A2) but we live extremely far away from the school and (b) Punggol View (Phase 2C <1km) but has balloting for <1km.
This is really giving us a big headache!! Any advice/opinions is appreciated! -
Fairfield will probably be the choice. But of course if you think "Every school is a good school", there are waterway primary school, punggol cove primary school, oasis primary school etc around you if Punggol view goes into ballot in Phase 2C(which I highly think so)
-
Are you prepared to relocate? Rent a house near Fairfield? Or can you fetch your child to school? Why is your Hubby not in favour of new school?

There's a possibility that you don't have to wait till 2Cs to activate your contingency plan as PLMGS may require balloting within 2km.

You may want to reconsider the new schools in Punggol. Besides Punggol View, the others that Justbear mentioned like Waterway primary school, etc are worth a second look. These days, MOE understands the psyche of parents like your hubby (not willing to put child in new schools) and has learnt to up the game. Most of these schools' principals, vice-principals or HODs are transferred from established schools and come with very impressive credentials. -

fairfield has an affiliated secondary school. if you are planning to relocate, it is not a bad idea because you are looking at 10 years. -
Thank you for your replies. Relocation is not possible in the near future as my parents moved to Punggol to be near us and to help support us with the kids. Not very nice for us to move away. Personally Iām not keen on FMPS as there is no school bus to NE area. My hubby can drive her there in the morning but returning home is a complicated matter esp when the kids start to have supplementary classes or CCA after school.

Hubby is not keen on new schools coz he thinks that the students there are guinea pigs and that there is no school culture in new schools.

I don't understand your first line. I thought for the past 2 years, PLMGS only had balloting for >2km? What do u mean by 'I don't need to wait till 2Cs to activate contingency plan'? -

You only look at the last 2 years. How about the year before that? And all the way to the last 10? You can't only look at 2 years in order to fit your narrative.

While ballot > 2km happen in the last 2 years, statistically, they are outliers. Ballot for PLMGS typically occurs < 2km (even < 1km) when the last 10 years are considered. Thus, I would expect things to normalize in a year where birth rate is higher than the last (Tiger year). If that happens, you don't have to wait till 2Cs to activate your alternative to PLMGS as you won't even get to ballot in 2C. -

Actually we can't look that far as 10 years ago there was no advantage for SC over PR. We should look at the historical data starting from the year that rule was introduced, which is 2012. So you should only look at balloting history from 2012 onward.

You can read more about that rule at https://sg.news.yahoo.com/citizens-to-have-%E2%80%98absolute-priority%E2%80%99-over-prs-for-p1-registration--moe.html -
I believed the additional 40 places (20 places allocated to phase 2B and phase 2C respectively) extracted from the original vacancies started in year 2014.
So you probably have to observe the trend starting from year 2014.
