hi can i check on this SC priority…does that mean…both parents must be SC or only the main applicant (eg. only the alumni member) must be SC? thanks!

It is the *child* who must be SC. -

Nothing to do with citizenship of parents
Schools only look at the citizenship of your child, not parent.
What is the citizenship of your child ? -

Think it's either GEP or non-GEP. If a SC child is non-GEP, taking out a foreigner GEP to squeeze him or her in may not lead to better learning outcomes. The non-GEP child will likely thrive better in an environment that suits his pace better.

What is more significant is really the emphasis on Singapore citizenship which started in 2014. That really shifted the balance in favour of SCs for the really popular schools.
I am still waiting to see if this will be extended to the GEP at P4-P6. IMHO, this program should be for SC kids only. I do know of quite a few PR kids who were in GEP left Singapore upon graduation.
In GEP classes, cannot expect the teacher to slow down for the non-GEP child when the rest are following lessons like a breeze.
On the other hand, GEP kids may find it boring to sit through a normal class when the pace is slower than what they can handle. So I guess it's good for them if they get in the programme even if they are foreigners or PR. -

popular schools are mostly reserved for children who are SCs...this is already an advantage over PRs and foreigners. -

Even in GEP classes, the kids are of different caliber and strengths and it's inevitable that the teacher will have to spend more time on those who are weaker in some areas (I am speaking from personal experience).
I agree that a child (GEP or non-GEP) will thrive best in an environment that matches his learning pace. This is also the reason I do not advocate hot-housing a child for the GEP Round 2 Selection Test. -

For geppers, more resources are allocated to them. If restrict the gep program to SC, these resources could be used to help the weaker SC students.

...phase 1 registration which is taking place tomorrow. Previously DD has brought home a form to fill up and printed some required documents and has submitted to school thru DD last. Do i still need to go down to the school to register tomorrow?...
Hi, our school office had emailed to inform us that, Phase 1, we do not need to be present unless the system has issues accepting our application due to missing information, etcetera...
