Hi kiakiamom!
You may like to go to this http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=426 to read on the websites available which will give you an indication (note: just an indication) on the distance. -

hi, you were like me previously; staying in CCK Cres & wanting to know if DLS is within 1 km.... you can actually call the school to ask. They are the best people to tell you coz they hv map reader tat shows which area fall under the 1km category .Hi,

Hi,
Thank you for the advise. Im contemplating to register my boy whom born in year 2005 to either DLS, unity or Yew Tee Pri…
It seems like all these schools need ballot for those staying within 1km… and I tried to do volunteering work but the school didnt call me up at all… even I leave my contacts behind…
Anyone can share with me which route should I be taking? Would it be too late to sign up for PV now?

Out of the 3 schools, i know DLS do not accept PV. Only know of YT allowing for PVs but not too sure about unity though. You can call the schools to ask if they accept PV still.Hi,

You should also check first with DLS if you are still within 1km coz if you are not, then if you are between 1-2km, there isn't much chance.
However, as DLS moving to Teck Whye next year, this may be their
down point.
Again, you really have to consider properly between the 3 schools coz
all 3 schools basically was a hard fight last year.
I still recalled driving to all 3 schools on the last day/hour of phase 2c to check our chances.... that was how kiasu I was.

Hi baby2momma,
So in the end which school did ur child ended with? I am planning to go down to DLS tmr to find out personally coz i tried calling but they dun really entertain us via phone. I know Unity and YTP both within 1km for me, so I am prepared to ballot.
When DLS shifted to Teck Whye next year, do they take in the CCK addess to compare the distance for P1 registration or will they be using Teck Whye address instead? -
Kiakiamom, if you are registering this year for your boy to enter P1 next
year then am afraid no chance for PV. PV has to be done 2yrs prior to
the child entering P1 especially for SAP schools. In other instances,
over subscribing of PV entails the eventual outcome of no more
work for parents to do and in such cases, requests for PV will
be declined.
Baby2momma's DS is in De La Salle.. It was a breathless time for all of
us here awaiting everyone's update with regards to the balloting result.
Must caution those with weak heart.. This lucky draw is really neck to
neck kind. Quite siong.. If you really want to go into this school though,
then the anxiety is worth it once your child's number is called during
balloting. Ask everyone, they'll tell you it's worth it.
I think whichever school you eventually choose, sure kena ballot in the
end. CCK schools quite hot... and surprisingly thought gahmen say we're
declining in baby numbers, every year oso got throngs of parents come in
for P1 registrations. Mebbe CCK baby boom..
As for the distance btwn your home & DLS, quickly find out from the admin
staff with regards to this issue.. My experience with DLS is; they will answer
the call but they will answer half-heartedly.. and if you keep calling they
can almost recognise your voice and start to sound annoyed.
Btw, can forget about PV-ing for DLS... it has been years since they've
accepted PVs. Their usual remark is... we have a strong PV base for a
few years, we don't need anymore. There's no more work to be given
to parents. Our current support is very strong. So thank you but we
dun accept anymore PV. -

Buds is right. It really is torturing going thru the ballot. My child got into DLS ultimately.
And eventho DLS is shifting to TW, the address to be used for registration is still in the current place and not the TW's add.
Not all blocks in CCK Cres are within 1km of DLS; so if you strongly wish for yr child to go into DLS, u really gotta check with the admin staff on the distance first.
And yes, DLS's admin staff hv very low tolerance level :x towards phone calls..... read our last year's \"battle\" posts & u know wat I mean.
Meanwhile, wish u luck !!

Hi baby2momma,
You are right. I went to the school yesterday to find out the actual distance for my place to DLS, and guess what, my address fall outside of 1km, that's mean its just a road away to fall within 1km....
Having said that, if I am fall under P2C, my application will surely be rejected cos based on past ballating history, there are ballot going on for those staying within 1km...
So now I left with Yew Tee Pri and Unity Pri, which is better? I've checked and both schools fall within 1km from my place... Sigh, Im starting feeling the stress even though my turn to register for P1 is one year away...
You are so lucky that little one managed to get into DLS, was it thru P2C balloting? -
Now i am really panicking…after reading all ur posts. I am also going try my luck for DLS for this year registration. My house is very near DLS (takes less than 5mins to reach). If less than 1km still got balloting is it and is it under phase 2c as well
-
Yes. Phase 2C for all first time applicants.
You gotta rough it out with all other 1st time applicants at this phase.
Meaning, no registration priority.
> no siblings in the school...
> no affiliation whatsoever... ie. church (etc)
> no PV... (in the case of DLS, no chance to PV oso.. :P)
Failure to get in at this Phase 2C will entail another nerve wrecking
experience at Phase 2C Supplementary at your 2nd school of
choice... provided that 2nd choice has enough spaces for
all applicants who failed to secure seats at 1st choice
in Phase 2C... if not it will mean another round of
balloting. Lastly, if still fail to get a seat at Phase
2C Supplementary, you will be directed to the
few schs within your vicinity which are left
with available plcs.
