I lived in the Lengkok Bahru,Redhill and Tiong Bahru areas for the first 29 years of my life and found it hard when I moved to Bt Panjang and Woodlands areas too.

i've always been staying around upper bukit timah. when hubby and i bought this flat, he was rather hesistant because there is no MRT and the price was high. but i fell in love the moment i stepped into this flat, so it finding my dream house. the amenities have always been here, but along the way, there was a lift upgrading and DTL2. we go to the GP opposite when kids & i fell ill. if we are successful in getting a unit, son will be the most unhappy one. change is always hard.

My wife is the more happy one because she stayed in the Bukit Panjang area since coming out from Malaysia at 13 years old.

I am often the more unhappy one haha.

Wanted to move back to my hometown but my wife won't hear of it.She claims places like Queenstown and Redhill are quite old.She wants to live in new estates.
How new does she want? There are quite a few blocks around 20years and newer now, and some new ones still being built. Prices are high though. Facilities in Queenstown are very poor right now, but should get better once the new blocks are completed. Redhill is pretty good, I think. My husband grew up in Queenstown, and we moved back (for him, I grew up in Upp Bkt Timah) in 1999. Before that, we lived nearly 10 yrs in Bukit Panjang.

Living in Queenstown from 2000-2010 before I go married is a dream for me.Nvm poor facilities.I like to stay near places like Queensway,IKEA and the big 4 markets(Redhill,Tiong Bahru,Henderson and ABC).Margaret Drive market is not bad too.In fact,I liked the feel of older estates.Reminds me of my growing up years in Lengkok Bahru and Jalan Tiong.

My wife finds that going to school from Queenstown or Redhill is a hassle for her.I did not mind because I grew up in those areas in the 80s and 90s.

It will be exciting if we can get a flat in the few blocks we like.

She can always ask for a transfer. Asking to transfer to a school closer to home is very common, and can be arranged easily, subject to vacancies. There are a lot of Pr schools in the area or not too far away.

But we have since relocated to the north side for the last 7 years.

And like what you said, prices are expensive too over there.

Actually,Woodlands is not a bad place to stay in but nothing beats staying in my hometown in the south.

Just got off from work and enjoyed some ME time by sitting in MCD for breakfast and downing a few cups of coffee before meeting DD2’s discipline mistress and teacher later.

Actually she is quite right. I was at blk 59 Lengkok Bahru car park one day. I felt time didn't pass at this small neighbourhood! The GP clinic still kept its gate! These days I dunno where I could find those gates!

But that's just Lengkok Bahru area. The cluster opp Redhill Mrt are ok. Dawson estate near Queenstown Mrt is pretty new.
