Besides just looking at the P and VP, should also look at the 4 individual subject HOD.

From 2014 (the year Alexandra started) until current (2017), past 3 years -
did MOE also post any heavy weight experienced HOD, from MOE HQ, into Alexandra, to head or to teach the subject department ?
True, need to look at Heavy Weight HOD being posted in APS. Captains (P & VP) is just another assessment method to look at. :rahrah:

              Hi all,

Need some advice - this year Bukit merah is down by 1 class vacancy in zhangde and geps each. What does this mean in terms of phase 2C balloting risk for Bukit merah schools or no impact? Im singaporean but don't have guts to ballot as I don't think we will be as lucky as last year. I've 2 girls and I'm registering my elder one this year.

Do you have the parameter so that can try to help you see? proximity and your preference.

Hi sorry i didnt realise there were updates in this thread. I am looking at Alexandra primary and chij kellock. I'm within 1km to Alexandra and 1-2km to chij.

Hi sorry i didnt realise there were updates in this thread. I am looking at Alexandra primary and chij kellock. I'm within 1km to Alexandra and 1-2km to chij.
Like what blur_mum said, APS likely balloting within 1km. CHIJ Kellock looks quite certain for 1-2km at 2C.

Overall picture is GES cut 30 vacancies but should still not be full by 2C and Zhangde also cut 30 which is likely to be full by 2C so it may left ppl with less choice in 2C.

Depending on the risk appetite, for APS, the applicants over vacancies should be around 120% this year, ie every 12 kid's prying for 10 spaces. Est vacancies available for 2C should be around 120 (assuming 10 applying for 2b) and expect around 140+ applicants. You will need to ask yourself what is your risk profile in such balloting situation.

There will be a similar group of people that has the same situation as you, so people who can tahan he risk will stay at APS while the rest will move to alternative choice at 2C.

If I am in your shoes and

                  1. CHIJ is my first choice, end of thought process, I will apply when the time comes and subject closed

                  2. If my first choice is APS and 2nd choice is CHIJ but I do not want balloting, I will wait until the number in APS filled up then I will proceed with CHIJ application.

                  3. If 1st choice is APS, and 2nd choice is CHIJ and have a risk appetite of 1.2x, I will apply APS and play a waiting game. I will do withdrawal at APS and apply 2nd choice when there are more than 1.2 times applicants over the vacancies. Also note that at the end of the phase 2C if CHIJ has less than 20 slots left , balloting for 1-2km could be possible at 2Cs.

Above numbers are estimation. Just trying to put it into perspectives so that you may see better, different scenarios if up to your own preference. It's really good to visit school to have a feel of the school if you haven't done so.

                  Hope the above helps.

                    Hi Lexy,

                    I like your assessment 😄

If the parent does not want to go through the stress of balloting, chij kellock would indeed be a wise choice especially if the younger one is also a girl. Once applied and successful, there is no need to fret over balloting. Next, prepare the girl for life skills like handling of money, eating during stipulated time and buying food.

Registering kid for p1 this mth. Any parents can share their cents of thought on why Alexandra primary is more popular that cantonment primary besides the 2 popular principals there? Both schools start ard the same period.

Apart from P and VP, location of schools also play a part. APS has a wider catchment area (360 all round) and slightly newer estate (higher probability of school going age children) compared to Cantonment (across the road within the 2km circle, besides Pinnacle, the area is either office space or some really old estate).
