I have personally encountered this situation.
I've never come across situations where employers of low-paying jobs reject hiring retrenched people, i've only come across retrenched people rejecting low-paying jobs.
tankee,
Sorry for being OT again.
er ... what for?
ok to OT .. I just want to avoid this thread turn from arguing on the issue to throwing mud at each other. Just focus on the issue, don't get personal.

Short term, yes, having the rental flats next to your block may affect the value of your property but in the long run, with Singapore being so land scarce, donβt think it will affect much.

Actual cases are: Toa Payoh, Commonwealth (Tanglin Halt), Redhill, Bt Merah, Clementi, etc.
where in the 70s and 80s, lots of 1 room and 2 rooms rental flats. Now, easily the most expensive HDB estates. -

Yup! You can say that again. i was house-hunting to be near my son's school and the prices ARE CRAZY!!! needs lots of cold hard cash, not just money from your CPF account...Funz:

I think these people are protesting on their view lah... so used to having greenery and empty space now there's another block of flat. I think they will also protest whether its normal flat or rental flat. -

Hello,mintcc:
. Technically, we are all living in \"subsidised\" housing anyway.
paying >$350k for a 90sqm, i don't call myself living in subsidised housing.
what rental flat tenants lack is the sense of ownership to property, hence the level of maintenance of the surroundings may be affected - but then this is a sweeping statement cos not all rental flat tenants are like that and not all hdb owners keep their surrounding clean too.
i think perhaps the residents grouse is the drop in property value. if the gahmen can afford to give them some form of compensation for the drop in propery value (eg cash form, more facilities etc), perhaps they will be more receptive to the idea.
jmho.
If the maintenance cost is high. It will effects the cost of that property and also decrease its value... -
