It is MOE that allocates the no. of DSA places for each school, and the domains. The school has no say; they have to wait for MOE's allocation every year.


This is what I was told by the teacher in charge of Shooting when we went for a top girls' school's DSA Open House in March. She said she didnt know if they would have any Shooting DSA places this year becos MOE had not decided on any quota yet. According to her, MOE wants talent to be more evenly distributed across Spore's schools. That probably explains why some schools get 0 quota for certain domains this year.

Wah ! If like this is pretty Risky, isn't it ?

Imagine those parents who had pumped in lots of $ to send their girls for private Shooting club training, for past number Of years since Lower primary before their girls reach P6 level : targeting RGS DSA via Shooting entry, only to realise that suddenly, this year Moe decided that Shooting is out of DSA domain wef this year (2017): now become zero chance for their girls to enter RGS, via shooting.

All the parents' money & effort spent past years in grooming their daughters for Shooting : gone down the drain !

The parents didn't know beforehand that RGS going to scrape Shooting DSA domain, wef 2017

If Moe want to remove or eliminate certain Sports domain like Shooting, should inform parents at least one year in advance first, so they both p6 students and parents are made aware, to change their dsa strategy in time to some other route, not caught stranded last minute.

Yes, no forewarning was given about the removal of these CCAs. Not only that, the children themselves become very disappointed and parents have to think of how to soften the impact for them. At the open houses, those CCAs were even featured and even the coaches and teachers in-charge of the CCAs were not aware that their CCAs would be removed from the DSA Exercise.

So, is this Shooting DSA only taken out of RGS DSA domain, or taken out of ALL the Sg sec schools dsa including say, remove Shooting out of other schools like National Junior College DSA domain, too ?

Poor p6 children, is like a bombshell upon them.

Imagine those involved all practised Shooting training so hard, for past few years, looking forward excitedly this year to enter their dream Secondary school via this cca, and now their dream shattered. Last minute, they have to divert attention to other possible avenue of dsa route, maybe music or academic route.

I think cca should be a passion and/or an interest of our kids more than just a tool to dsa. Maybe that’s why moe is trying to adjust cca domain every year?

NJC dun do cca dsa all the while...

This yr NJC is the only school that doesn't has Academic DSA, must DSA thru CCA or music or arts

I don't think the children train in order to DSA to a particular school. They definitely train in the sport cuz of interest and passion. Eventually, those who excel in any particular sport will become aware of the secondary choices available for them to DSA to and would have attended the open houses to select their choice school, only to find the DSA domain taken out at the commencement of the DSA Exercise in early May, during the midst of their SA1 exams.

Finally received the email.
Had to call the school, and the lady answering the call insisted the emails had been sent out to both parents, but neither of us received. Asked for her help to resend to other email address and finally received.
Alas, as expected audition time clashes with another audition DS had to attend, and SJI made it clear in the notification that they would not accede to requests for alternative date for audition.
When DS comes home tonight, he would have to make the tough decision on which one to attend.[/quote]
