RJC 85/86 had the reunion dinner last yr at a ballroom at City hall. It was a blast! -

Last year's reunion must be a glitzy event in a ballroom. Wow, the seniors are loaded! :evil: -
It wasn’t glitzy or expensive cos the committee chaired by my very pragmatic friend managed to keep the cost affordable for everyone. We held it there cos our RJC prom night in '86 was at tt exact same ballroom.
In our time, we had disco dancing during our prom. My son’s prom last yr is simply a sit-down dinner without dancing. How odd to hv a prom without a dance floor. It’s like ice kachang without ice. -

I guess we have different perspectives? We think that 3 mths sounds like a long time! Too long to revise very hard or they will risk burnout. Remembering our JC days, we didn't start serious revision till at most a month before each set of tests/exams (probably shorter for my husband!), so 3 mths seems like a fairly long time. This is assuming the student is keeping up well with her daily work and doesn't have significant areas of incomprehension. In any case, she still hasn't got most of her test results back, so it's like this round isn't really \"finished\" yet. It also depends on the student - this time last year, I was telling my older daughter (who isn't as strong academically) that she should start planning her A level revision as she was very laid back!iFirefly:

I asked DS if his teachers have completed the syllabus, DS says NO.
Y6 students need to sit for one more exam (Prelims?) before the A Levels, right ?
Yes, there are prelims before and after the Sep hols.
My daughter said that the syllabus is pretty much covered already - a little left for Chem, I think, and some for H3 Econs. She's busy with a few other things this month, more or less academic related, and our advice to her was that she shouldn't begin serious revision again till the end of the month. I still see her busily doing work every night though I'm not sure whether it's homework, her own revision, or some of the other stuff she's doing.
Was just thinking - in 3 months' time, DS will graduate from RI and will no longer be a student. His next milestone is NS !
Don't want Ah Boy To (become) Man so soon. Haha..
PS : Has the school done away with Dean's List ? -

It's so much greater a milestone for boys! For girls, it's just an extended vacation unless they find a job or something else to do. No mention of Dean's List for quite a while, so I guess they've decided to scrap it. I think they still list the top few students in each subject (or maybe just some subjects). I'm more interested in seeing the median mark for each subject. -
My child has gotten back her results for Year 5 common test and results are disastrous (don’t know the details as she has only sent me a message from school) with a "u" for one of her subject. Would like to know if there is a result break down by percentile for each subject.

As far as I recall, the latest report I saw (my daughter is Y6) only shows the student's percentile ranking in each subject. Looks like they don't even disclose the median anymore. I'm very sure they won't publish more details, thanks to the recent climate regarding marks. Maybe you can speak to the teachers? They may be willing to give more details verbally and in private.
But I remember hearing that Y5 grades can be quite bad for many students, and for some subjects, nearly half the students fail. I guess it's the school's way of making the students work harder? I personally don't think it's the best way, but they obviously feel that it works.
