First day of Primary 1 - what to expect ?

Different schools different practices. You will probably receive your enrolment confirmation and orientation day information from your school in the weeks to come. You will probably get more info regarding first week of P1 then or on the orientation day itself.some schools have their orientation day before the end of year holidays, some schools during the holidays.

It is not preschool anymore. Most schools nowadays do not allow the parents anywhere near the classrooms. At most during 1st week, parents can stand outside the canteen area behind a cordon and observe their kids.

Many schools assign a P3 or P4 mentor to show the P1s how to buy food during the first week or so. Otherwise the teachers will be around to help for that first week.

So up to u whether to take leave. Most parents take leave at least on the first day to make sure the kid settles in fine, at least go to the correct assembly area without tears...

Some schools allow parents into the school, some not at all, some allow for 3 days, some 1 day, some only allowed to see their kids during the recess break and not at class... etc.

Recess break, most schools will have the buddy system. They will assign a buddy ( example whole P5 level) to each P1 kid for a few days/ a week. They will guide the P1 at recess during those few days to buy food, toilet location etc. Teachers and Parent Support will usually be in the canteen to assist too.
