2017 P1 Registration Exercise for 2018 In-Take

Tu Tu:
In recent years, MOE has demonstrated time and again that it feels transparency actually \"increases stress amongst parents\". Take a look at their policies on revealing top PSLE scorers information and the changing of T-scores to much more abstract ALs.Exactly! Well said!
The admin staff kept chanting they are following MOE guidelines etc without providing a reasonable answer to my question:
\"How can parents make an informed decision without knowing the stats breakdown details? And hence, our 2C chance wasted without knowing?!\"
The staff continued to \"chant\" their standard reply again. As good as an answering machine.... :yikes:
Parents can chant all they want about getting more data. I doubt it will get them anywhere. -
Maybe moe doesn’t wan to reveal distance breakdown in case property prices of that area is affected. But actually when we know which schools need to ballot for which distance it will show also. Maybe they just don’t wan it to be so obvious? Cos the balloting page won’t be there for long?

Hi, does anyone know the numbers for Mee Toh? TIA!

There's a danger here that some staff intentionally hide the information from certain people while revealing it to others.
besides writing this into the 2018 P1 thread, u may also post this into 2019 P1 thread.zac's mum:
MOE website will only reveal the distance category for which the balloting will take place. They still refuse to reveal how many applicants per distance category.
So those who have all the pent-up extra energy and worries, please spend your time to craft a strongly-worded email to MOE, your MP, The Straits Times, etc etc etc. Then we will have some positive proactive action going on.
As this year Phase 2C is already over, the ones who are more keen / eager to see positive proaction taking place : with the detailed breakdown by distance from MOE : will be the next batch and subsequent batches, ie. for 2019 / 2020 / 2021 P1 intake, and future batches.
Your point is very valid, zac mum.
Year in year out, there were so many parents under Phase 2B Grassroot Leaders community, enrolling their children under P2B : strange that nobody from this community \"Leadership\" group take any initiative to raise this valid point, to government / MOE. After all, every parent from Phase 2A1 all the way to Phase 2C Supp, are looking for detailed breakdown figures, by distance. Nobody is interested in just Lump-sum figure, which MOE providing now, in her daily 8+ pm update on MOE website.
The fact is : Lump-sum figure is useless ! Lump-sum figure can't tell anything, as good as not providing any info,at all
In that critical hour, so many parents are anxiously awaitng to know : how many kids are enrolled, under their own distance-bracket, in that school they going to enrol ?
actually, all parents have the right to know, which is the detailed figure breakdown
worse still, some schools even suppress such critical, important info, from parents. Ask the admin staff : some so secretive, refused to disclose, as what some parents had reported their encounter before, with them. Ridiculous !
fancy suppressing or hiding such info from parents, when it is required.
Also, I don't believe in distance based balloting. Where I live, Nanhua Pri is just slightly out of 2KM, if I drove, it would take less than 5minutes to reach it which is really kinda ridiculous. Even with a public bus, 15minutes top. Back in our parent's times, people walked hrs to school. Suppose if some of the more popular schools had unlimited slots, I personally don't think parents would even mind 30-60min travel time.
Sad to say, our \"transparent\" system has many loops holes. -

Yes, I'm sure staff will reveal the information to the minister of education if he asked. There's a danger here that some staff intentionally hide the information from certain people while revealing it to others.

There were 575,353 private cars registered in Singapore last year. I doubt parents will want their P1 kids to be taking even a 15min journey by MRT at 6am and then walking to school by themselves. Distance prioritization makes the most sense in situations meritocracy do not apply. Also, I don't believe in distance based balloting. I don't believe in religion either, but I believe that compassion for others less fortunate than ourselves is a necessary human trait. -

Hi, does anyone know when will the ‘schools conducting ballot’ in MOE website be updated please?

A radial distance makes the most sense even though it's not the most practical. A 'time taken' approach may be practical but it is not implementable, given the myriad ways of getting yourself from point A to point B.

P/S: I don't believe in the opium of the people either. However, it is also said that it is the sigh of the oppressed creature

If like that, i just hope that the school will pay attention to the details and make sure that the date the parent changed address follows the rules and guidelines of MOE which states that it should be done on or before 29 June 2017. If understand it correctly.
