Year in year out, there were so many parents under Phase 2B Grassroot Leaders community, enrolling their children under P2B : strange that nobody from this community \"Leadership\" group take any initiative to raise this valid point, to government / MOE. After all, every parent from Phase 2A1 all the way to Phase 2C Supp, are looking for detailed breakdown figures, by distance. Nobody is interested in just Lump-sum figure, which MOE providing now, in her daily 8+ pm update on MOE website.
The fact is : Lump-sum figure is useless ! Lump-sum figure can't tell anything, as good as not providing any info,at all
In that critical hour, so many parents are anxiously awaitng to know : how many kids are enrolled, under their own distance-bracket, in that school they going to enrol ?

worse still, some schools even suppress such critical, important info, from parents. Ask the admin staff : some so secretive, refused to disclose, as what some parents had reported their encounter before, with them. Ridiculous !

I smell an underlying reason for the official stance of not revealing the breakdown: to drive the demand into those schools which still have leftover places in every district. There is always one. Otherwise they will have to close down. You know their mantra is \"there are sufficient places for all citizens\", believe that every school is good enough.

There is no guarantee at all. I've heard about this when son was registering for p1 way back in 2006. But back then there wasn't this 30 months rule. But it was very peak since it's dragon year registration. Sign the tenancy agreement or buy a flat within 1km only to get balloted out, definitely super pissed when driving past the school. Next year will be registration for dragon year kids, although figures not as high as year 2k.
Nothing new there. In any case, most of the time, it's plain stupid to do that unless you are guaranteed entry. Imagine after all that and you still get ballot outFreeflying2009:
I heard form agent friend that there were some very smart parents who waited until 2b registration is finished, they knew the exact 2c vacancies of some top schools then immediately sign a tenancy agreement and change IC address before 25th July or even on 28th July, which is the last day for 2c registration.
I am not really buying it but for what its worth, with what has been going on lately, she somehow made sense now.

Parents can chant all they want about getting more data. I doubt it will get them anywhere. -
Maybe moe doesn’t wan to reveal distance breakdown in case property prices of that area is affected. But actually when we know which schools need to ballot for which distance it will show also. Maybe they just don’t wan it to be so obvious? Cos the balloting page won’t be there for long?

Also, I don't believe in distance based balloting. Where I live, Nanhua Pri is just slightly out of 2KM, if I drove, it would take less than 5minutes to reach it which is really kinda ridiculous. Even with a public bus, 15minutes top. Back in our parent's times, people walked hrs to school. Suppose if some of the more popular schools had unlimited slots, I personally don't think parents would even mind 30-60min travel time.
Sad to say, our \"transparent\" system has many loops holes. -

There were 575,353 private cars registered in Singapore last year. I doubt parents will want their P1 kids to be taking even a 15min journey by MRT at 6am and then walking to school by themselves. Distance prioritization makes the most sense in situations meritocracy do not apply.Also, I don't believe in distance based balloting. Where I live, Nanhua Pri is just slightly out of 2KM, if I drove, it would take less than 5minutes to reach it which is really kinda ridiculous. Even with a public bus, 15minutes top. Back in our parent's times, people walked hrs to school. Suppose if some of the more popular schools had unlimited slots, I personally don't think parents would even mind 30-60min travel time.

I don't believe in religion either, but I believe that compassion for others less fortunate than ourselves is a necessary human trait. -
