Minister resignation needs how long a notice period har?

      she's MP. Not Minister.

      Oh, now she's ex-MP.

I can't believe she chooses not to complete her term at her constituency.

Did they say it'll be a non-elected grassroots leader taking charge of Marsiling ward? I didn't follow the news on this, sorry. But I vaguely remember hearing on tv that the other 3 Chinese elected MPs will take turns to cover for Halimah.
        pirate:
Grassroots adviser only what. Not MP lah. Like how Potong Pasir and Hougang used to have grassroots advisers even though already have MPs. What is the problem? The more the merrier, no? 😉
In his letter to HY, our PM wrote, \"..I will soon appoint replacement.....in particular a Grassroots Advisor to succeed you in Marsiling...\"

But, knowing our PM, of cos it could be just another blunder (again). 😂

Rest assured that I will soon appoint replacements to the various responsibilities that you have relinquished, and in particular a Grassroots Advisor to succeed you in Marsiling, so that the residents will continue to be well taken care of.\"[/quote]

Seems to me like playing 家家酒 -

            1. Barely a year before PE, set up a committee to decide that, after all of us are already so used to \"regardless of race, language or religion\", race - as well as language and religion for purpose of deciding the ethnicity/eligibility of potential EP candidate - suddenly must be regarded when it comes to selecting our President!

            2. Decide that WKW, and not the first people-elected OTC, shall be counted as the first EP. Reason being WKW was also \"elected\" in to office (nevermind that it's by the Parliament, and not the people).

            3. Decide that ethnic Indian (by father's ethnicity) HY is a Malay.

            4. PM can appoint a grassroot leader to succeed outgoing MP..

            🤷

            1. I'm in principle agreeble to this reserved PE thingy,

Not me though. Because I believe our minority compatriots would have no problem getting elected into office BY MERIT. Hence, there really is no need to specially reserved the post for any particular race.

One good example would be the most recent BE in Bukit Batok: a minority (Indian) candidate had defeated a Chinese candidate by a comfortable margin.

Oh ya hor. ..she was MOS then became speaker. Still wondering what is the notice period of key appt holders.

I had the same question too a few days ago, after I replied to someone here about the period when we'll have no President. PM said there's going to be an Acting President after 31 Aug, last day of service for Dr TT, until results day in Sept.

I'd wondered if Speaker of Parliament Mdm Halimah would have an unfair advantage of 'rehearsing' as President during this 2-week window, but in her resignation letter to the Clerk of Parliament (7 Aug), she wrote 'with immediate effect'. I guess she's no longer a Speaker of Parliament now.

While there's a notice period for key appointment holders, it's possible to make compensation in lieu, as was the case for Sim Ann in the last GE, if my memory is still working well.

If not elected, can get the job back?

Yes, likely can go back to NTUC her former organisation. Please google zaobao interview where the Chinese reporter posed this question on her plans in the event of defeat.

Edit: However, as she's now 62, she will have to sign a new employment contract with her new employer to work till 65. I'm sure you know there's a thing called Retirement and Re-employment Act. Her stakes are high as she'll not get the same kind of compensation under this kind of contract of service.

No wonder Yaacob Ibrahim wants to stay put as he is 61...

Jworld, Speaker of Parliament is same rank as a Minister. In her case, perhaps a junior one with lower compensation.

Before becoming Speaker of Parliament, she was MOS for MCYS (MSF) after General Election 2011. MOS is an office holder position: 政务部长 也是一种初级部长 but without full ministerial privileges.
