Shichida or Glenn Doman or both?
-
Hi quixation,
very interested in the san zhi jin video you were referring to. I have started to flash the 1st paragrah to him 2 months back but I think its one of his least favourite cards.
Personally, I think Schichida and GD methods really have quite similar philosophy and methods. I don’t think Schichida is too serious, basicaly its about less than 5 mins of flash cards a day. There are less rules with the flash cards other than the math portion so we can flash anything—I think GD have more guidance on the flash cards though. -
my son is 30months. he doesnt like to learn letters of the alphabets. However, he likes books. He can repeat the sentences to me. eg: deepavali is the festival of lights. can "read" the whole book of 14 pages.
how can i encourage him to recognise words ? -

According to those Shichida methods and others such right brain school, what they teach is that you do not need to purposely make him recognize words, just read to them, flash the word and picture to them and their right brain will be at work automatically. If they don't show sign of recognising it, it does not mean they are not learning, just that the brain is subconsciously absorbing it, especially true in young children. They are like a magnet for knowledge.my son is 30months. he doesnt like to learn letters of the alphabets. However, he likes books. Personally, I feet that is true especially for kids, there is a stage where they just input without output, so we should not give up when we don't see sign of them responding, the time to output is not ripe yet. -

Yeah.. GD book says we are not supposed to 'TEST' the babies now coz it will make them think that we give because we want something back from them.. the first thing GD teaches is to respect the babies. I think they are absorbing and will help later in their education.. As for the alphabet, I decided against teaching my baby the alphabet because I am flashing words so i dont want to confuse her. Why give her a A when she can have Apple, which is more meaningful and more practical? And if she knows Apple, then she knows that it starts with A and spells with PPLE..i dunno how to explain it hope you understand wat i mean..In fact, GD books says that babies who are taught the alphabet before words finds it more difficult to read then babies who are not taught the alphabet! so i guess your 30mth old belongs to the latter! thats great so why bring her backwards? Why not move her forward and learn more things..erm begin phonics maybe?

since we are talking about whether to have Schichida or Glen Doman...there is a product that claims to combine the two :

Any body come across them before? -
Hi, Chief
My girl is 20 months and able to pronounce & recognise A to Z & 1 to 10 but not words. Is she too late for Glen Domin? -
Hi Chrismei,
I think Glen Doman is for kids up to 6 yars old, so not too late at all. An I think less than 2 year old kid can recognise A- Z and 1- 10 is very good already.
Do your girl say the words like pa pa, ma ma ? -
Hi mincy
Yes. But most of the times, she will call us daddy n mummy instead. She is able to pronounce naughty, relatives' names, clown, drum and other words but not recognise.
Is the products good? I understand a booth will be set up for Glen Doman at Expo for the Mothercare next week and i am thinking to make a trrip down. I believe most of the toddler is able to talk abt 18 to 19 months.
Not sure if you have been to this website which is very informative abt baby's development progress - http://www.babycentre.com
Do you know what the est price range for the Geln Doman like?
Thanks -
Hi Chrismei,
That’s good! For recognising words, GD have program for that but their method recommend you not to test the child I think, I dont use the GD method though, quixation anyfeed back on the reading part?
For reading, I just starter trying the "Your baby can read!" DVDs on my boy (32 months) and have been reading to him since 6 months and I think they work quite okay. I did not test him on A-Z and -10 but, he knows words in the DVD and his favourite books – words like "baby" "arms up" "cow" "dog" "cat" "ma ma" and things he likes like "helicopter", "elephant" he will recognise. Some times when I flash card to him, I will show the words first and he will say out the words sometimes, but on for things he likes. -
I have the shichida flash cards and dot cards. Anybody interested in getting them? I can sell to you cheaply
