Yes, I also agreed. My dd1 also get into an ip school and her t score below sch's cut off point. At that time, appeal was allowed and was the last batch. Until today she only has not so expensive Chinese group tuition (cos the Chinese standard in this sch is super high), the rest she is managing on her own and is doing fine without tuition.Ganjiongspider:

She has to commit to her sport cca, training 3 times a week. It is not true that sport dsa players have to spend a lot of time training in sch. Be it entered into an ip sch via sport dsa or join a sport as cca, the amount of time spent in training is the same. Most of the time, only if a player is under the national team (represent singapore) then they have external intensive training.
I find that is not about how well one's score well in psle but is the learning attitude. Someone pointed out that psle can be drilled and have a lot of tuition in one subject to boost up the score but learning attitude really can't be taught. Only positive self motivated learning attitude will succeed be it which sch they go. Just my 小小 opinion. :oops: -

Learning attitude is key to thriving everywhere they go. That's why we hear cases of kids with decent T scores and later crack in secondary schools. They have not mastered independent-learning.
My DS1 entered the school slightly below COP. In the first year, his scores for 9 subjects were uneven, but after 3 years, he is doing so well that he even have free time to pursue his interests in music and another sport, on top of his training. My DS2 doesn't have tuition too and even got Edusave Scholarship award which surprised us last year. I only told them that they must chase after their teachers to clarify their doubts and to understand where they have gone wrong. Drilling more without correcting their errors is a way of deepening their misconceptions and all.
Also, a lot of top students in the neighbourhood schools do not have tuitions, and these will be the kids whom our DC will have to compete with. So best to teach them to be independent in their learning. -

Yes, there are some who manage well, and some who can't. I think there are many factors, one of which is the nature of the CCA. There are some CCAs that take up a lot of time, such as swimming, running, team sports, dancing etc. And by the time the student is done with training, he/she will be very tired. Another factor is the natural academic ability. We all have know of former schoolmates who are simply faster and better when it comes to academic.
Parents should know the capability of one's child and training requirement of the CCA, and make an objective judgment. Whether to take up CCA DSA is a major decision that will significantly affect the child's life. Unfortunately there is no trial period; it is either swim or sink. -
