Thanks 3ofthem for your sharing! It’s always nice to hear inspiring personal stories in "turbulent" times, and remind ourselves that DSA/PSLE is just another phase in life that we have to face, and that life and self-worth are much more than this.

Hello. Had too much coffee and can't sleep. Realised it's the DSA season and decided to pop by here to busybody a bit, don't mind me ok

I have been through 2 DSAs and my kids are big kids now. Let me share my story because I hope I can encourage those parents whose kids do not make it through DSA to stay positive. There is still the PSLE. Even if after PSLE and your kid doesn't make it to the school of his choice, life goes on. Come on, it is only PSLE!

DD1 was successful during her DSA and got into her school of choice. She, and perhaps even us as the parents, became complacent. Her PSLE result did not turn out as expected although she still got into her DSA school. I think the complacency went on for some time and by upper sec she started struggling. Took her a while to buck up again.

DD2 was from GEP but wasn't accepted during DSA even though her school results were good and she won trophies etc for various competitions, so the saying that almost all GEP kids are accepted by the top schools is really a myth. Needless to say, she was heartbroken and cried a river of tears. I was heartbroken but as her parents we told her it is ok to have small setbacks like this in life, there must be a reason why she was not picked. Look forward and not look back, DSA is just a bonus round. In fact this setback made her a stronger person and she worked harder for her PSLE. Eventually she became the top few scorers in her school and got into her sec school of choice. She continues to work hard there because she has tasted failure/setback.

My girls have both come a long way and have matured into fine young ladies, each with their own life experiences. I, as their parent, have learnt a lot from them too. In secondary schools and JCs, there will be even more challenges, setbacks, that they have to face on their own. So whatever the outcome may be by end of Aug, sit back, relax and never show your anxiety before their PSLE. Tell them everything is fine because there are much bigger and more important things awaiting them after PSLE.

:goodpost: No matter what, we should always place our DC's interest in the first place! It will be another 6 years of education for them and I believe we want them to enjoy the learning journey.

It's really a perspective that puts us all in perspective. To be honest, we applied DSA more to 'snag' a much coveted place & relieve stress. Wld DC ustand even if they don't get it & go thro PSLE as every child need to anyway. Alot of ideas kids get were either introduced or they model our thots & beliefs. I rmbr DC returned fr school one day and excitedly inform his classmate's mum had started DSA training. He asked what it involves & wanted to apply for that dream sch. So, I took the stand now not to reveal to DS and let him hv his usual frame of mind to complete Prelims. Owise it'll serve as a distraction. Will reveal after Option Form arrives, then we've to caution him to be sensitive to others.

Hope DS will put in best effort for PSLE and be consistent in his work. I believe the PSLE rigor is only part of the equation for growing up, personal devpt & training of the mind, discipline and attitude towards sec sch and beyond. We've always imbibed in him attitude of not giving up, values of hard work & consistency and never to leave work incomplete.

DC was very single-minded & had expressed his choice as the days before Prelims. For this, it's also the reason why we dropped the other CO, as we calibrate according to his interests, not us as parents. We just want DS to be happy with his choices & thrive in his new endeavor.

Only one perspective fr this one parent. Granted, each parent hv to analyze & hold conversations with their DC to ustand DC's inclination to choices.

I wish more DC will be receiving good news in the new week & those in waiting will get their WL converted. It's my wish all parents are able to hv a good relaxing weekend with their family & bond with your kids. It's a new week to look forward to in 2 days! Keep chin up & be happy.

Why don't u call NJC next week, give them your child's name, ask them to check, since news supposed to be out by next Thur (31 aug), and different candidates DSA by diffferent type of domain, & news released by different domain ?
