I think once you start washing once a week, you will very quickly be able to tell the difference by touch alone. And there is a difference if the sheets were washed/dried by heat or cool water/winds. I feel very lucky to have modern day appliances. Cannot imagine washing by hand or stirring the sheets with a stick in a giant tub of boiling water like grandma!

I have a helper and I do not change the sheets once a week.
We do it fortnightly. It can be a tiring job since with the changing of the sheets, helper vacuums the mattresses and pillows as well. After the sheets are dried, helper will iron and fold before putting them in the cupboard. We also have the luxury of being able to sun our comforters, pillows, etc in the morning if the weather allows.
Now that kids' days at school are longer, they will climb onto their bed only near bedtime. So I guess the sheets are still relatively clean.

Not my requirement. 1st helper did it automatically and she trained my 2nd helper and so forth. I have been enjoying crisp clean sheets because of OCD helpers.

We all sleep in shorts and t-shirts (kids gave up on pyjamas years ago), but we won't use them for any other purpose for those few days, if you know what I mean. Because I don't want to change sheets so often, I have always been very strict about what gets on the beds.Slmkhoo

Isn't it the norm to have sleep clothes. May not be PJ per se but anything that you wear to bed will not be worn in the day or out of the house right?
