Long time since I updated but my daughter signed up for DSA, and successfully got in till the interview section. Hers was two weeks ago. Hopes she gets into the school!

For those end of Sec 2 \"O\" level students who did well, and are offered by School to convert to \"IP\" program, in Sec 3 -Cedars really give the Sec1 a hard time. Many projects, very close dateline. It's really selection - survival of the fittest, see who drown first. Many relax relax after PSLE. Then they :imdrowning: :?: in Sec 1.
I doubt the school will force u to drop the subject if u fail it in Sec 3. Greater concern is that those students may get disheartened. If the student drops the subject, it is more likely a voluntary decision by the student. They need to fully understand the implications before making such a choice.
Failing at Sec 3 means a high chance of doing badly if they are on the \"O\" Level track. So it's a wake-up call.
Some people actually find \"A\" Maths easier, as the scope is narrower, just more detailed.
If they were to accept / take up the \"IP\" offer starting in Sec 3, will they miss out a lot, catch up a lot of missed-out past 2 years of IP work ?
Which areas do they need to catch up, in ? -
hello! iām a sec 2 student and i am thinking of transferring to cedar next year for sec 3.
do they allow admissions for those wanting to join cedar taking 'oās or do they only allow you to transfer taking the IP programme? if so, do you guys know what are some of the requirements needed to be able to get into cedar?
i would also like to know what the school culture is like and how the students are as well!!

Hi this chat is pretty quiet lately....my girl has been offered a CO for DSA- IP Maths. Can anyone gives me an inside view of the school's culture, how stressful or heavy are the schoolworks, competitiveness of the students, teaching style of the teachers. Appreciate any info. Thanks in advance

I think your questions are similiar to Rae4kids, and I have already tried to answer them in the previous page (158). Maybe someone else can give you another perspective. If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a pm. I can share whatever little I know.
Just a fyi, this year there are 4 IP classes, 4 O level track classes and 1 Sports class. Your daughters will be allocated across the 4 IP classes. I guess what happens next is the principal will invite you for a talk to brief you on what to expect. You can then ask her more detailed questions.

I am also concern over the school commitment to sports as I saw quite a number of DSA CO were issued to sports, only less than 20 for academic. My DD is hopeless in sports so wonder if she can adapt well in the school -

Oic what you mean. Then there is no short cut. That long walk is the only way. It is sheltered and almost every pupil walks that path, with the exception of those being ferried. I stay near Cedar and so, offered my dd an e-scooter. She refused saying she does not want to stand out. I guess she enjoys the walk. Its probably a good time to mingle with her peers. Your dd might like it too.
My dd is not a sporty person too. For PE, I have not heard of anything excessive from her. For CCA, your dd can choose a non sports CCA. Cedar has an impressive spread of CCAs. I recall during their Open House, their girls were gathered in the hall to pitch for new recruits to join them. They truly wowed. From gu zheng to dance to debate, Cedar should have every imaginable CCA to suit your non sporting dd.
Btw, my dd is in choir. Most CCAs are held 2-3 days a week and end around 6pm. So you may be able to pick her up after work.
Cedar has no special committment to sports. If any, I sense the school is committed to excellence. The principal wants everyone to do well in their personal pursuits, be it in CCA or studies. -

We actually didn't get to know much about cedar during the open house becos we were rushing to St nick that very same day :slapshead: can i know abt how many students in a IP class?
My DD is in the top 2 classes(MS) of her pri school, in terms of academic results -she has never been the best in her upper pri class, may be some where in the middle and more than half her classmates are students council/prefects.So i don't think my DD is a shark, but i do think she's use to swimming with them.
Even thou my DH wanted DD to go by PSLE Tscore(he has his own preferences-NYGS/RGS) :razz: my DD liked what she saw at Cedar open house and i m 99% sure that she'll accept the CO. :boogie:
Hi skcmummy, we meet again in this chat :celebrate: During the tea session, i oso noticed that there were indeed very few CO given out to IP students.
In fact, i look at Cedar's strong sports culture from a different point of view. My DD is also not the sporty type, barely pass her school's 1.6km run(last few at the back) but i felt that its important for her to cultivate the love for sports/exercise .. At their teenage years, i am pretty glad that she's in a school environment that encourages her to participate in sports/ or force to jog twice weekly
I m hopeful that its a positive influence and can benefit her for life. :rahrah:
