And he was paying tribute to ...

      We want a PH :rahrah:

as he was inspecting the guards...LHL was walking behind him. TT was like a mouse in front.

A mouse...not sure if you just mean in terms of height, or with any negative connotation when you use this word.. but I think even if he may not deserve the million dollar salary package in your eyes, there is no need to describe an elderly man as such. Jmho.

Not sure what people expect TT to do? Pick fight with the gov just for the heck of it? 🤷

Agree. One may hv differing views (which is fine), on the system, process etc but it should not get personal. Otherwise it degenerates into just petty criticism of a person, which was not the point in the first place?

If both found ineligible, a lot of voters will be very angry. Many prefer to get in an independent candidate, not straight and fresh out from Parliament House! At least Dr TT was out of politics for some years and was working at OCBC and MOF for a period. But Mdm Halimah is merely a union lawyer.

One on one, she might lose. 3-cornered fight - got chance. A sliver.

            i don't like TCB.

You don't like TT. You don't like TCB.

So 6 years ago, you voted for one of the remaining 2 Tans?

How can anyone not remember what Dr TT did in the 80s to 90s? I grew up during Dr TT's era. Met him for the first time as a teen and a few times later.

He was the voice of reason and conscience during those authoritarian years under LKY. He spoke up. It was always comforting to hear TT speak when LKY's voice was starting to get overbearing and arrogant. TT is a steady man. I would place him in the same category as Dhanabalan

I'm glad Dhanabalan is in the CPA.

But for the record, I utterly dislike the Acting President JY Pillay. He is damn haughty. I hope he retires soon.

DH says he only remembered TT opposed OTC’s recommendation to build the MRT system and instead supported a bus-only system. Can one imagine what Singapore would be like without the MRT, despite its many flaws today?

DH also remembered TT’s disastrous foray into UBS during his tenure in GIC. Despite warning about a impending financial crisis earlier, when the crisis hit, GIC acted too early and suffered heavy losses as a result.

Your husband was in the civil service during TT or OTC's time? And was he from GIC or Temasek?

OTC in MOT (\"M of Comms\" in 1980) was damn long ago. You have an elderly husband?

The above was circulated by several online citizens 6 years ago. He probably got it from Temasek Review or TOC.

It's only troubling when you have people who merely parrot their working husbands' opinions or repeat what EDMW kopitiam folks perpetutate.

Sometimes they don't know what they're ranting about or why they're supporting certain individuals or causes.

JY Pillay is only acting president.

Tsk, tsk, why behave like the EDMW kopitiam folks you so despised by resorting to personal attacks when you lose an argument.

Nothing wrong with me sharing my or my DH's views here. After all, this is a public forum and I don't see why SAHMs should be so viciously slammed for sharing their second halves' views. Did SAHMs offend you in anyway? Or are you simply envious...

The fact that TT opposed OTC's recommendation of a MRT system was well-documented and a simple search would surface the archived Straits Times articles. Those who lived through that period would likely recall reading Straits Times headlines about this argument between TT and OTC. No need to turn to TOC or Temasek Review, good old Straits Times has all the information.

I tot it was Goh Keng Swee who opposed the MRT because of its cost? Anyway to MRT or not to MRT is not the President’s job.
