Your friend must be clear, of what she wants.Asking for a fren - wat is the chances of SOTA WL converting in to CO? Are there incidents of WL for SOTA not getting in SOTA on PSLE release day?
My fren kid has a CO for DHS but her dd wants to give that up to try waiting for SOTA WL. Risky a not??
If she want her daughter to take double Sciences at A level, over and above a Dance or Arts curriculum her daughter likes : accept Dunman High, because DH offer this subject combination, at GCE \"A\" level.
DHS being SAP school, students study Higher Chinese.
And one good thing about Dunman High is that : even though she is in an A-level-IP school of 6 years, however those who are offered DSA Dancing : their DSA contract for dancing commitment, is only up to 4 years.
Come to (year 5 & 6) : if your friend's daughter is so sick & tired of dancing for the past 4 years under the DSA commitment which she had to honor after signing the CO, she can gain freedom
from year 5 onwards : to take any Cca she likes or fancy. After all, there is a wide range of Cca choices available, in Dunman High. Not only dancing.
Anyway, 4 years of dance commitment at Dunman High, is good enough for her to train, motivate & display her Arts interests.
Once become freed from commitment from year 5 onwards, free as a bird now, she can channel all her energy, \"chiong\" towards preparing academically, for her final, last lap (last 2 crucial years of Year 5 & 6) of GCE A-level preparation.
SOTA, however, is a specialized school, for Creative Arts. Her curriculum slants heavily towards the Arts.
At such a young tender age of 12 years old, a more important qn to ask is, is your friend sure that she is making the correct, right decision, to channel her daughter into a specialized Arts school, for the next 6 long years ahead ?
If you read comments over at SOTA thread itself around page 166, at year 6 : some parents there commented that in order to study double Sciences, the SOTA student must meet certain criteria first, is on a case-by-case basis.

The subject combination taken at year 5 & 6 : is very important, to determine the Faculty of choices, in the future university courses they intend to pursue. -
I need comparison between TKGS and St. Margarets because my DD has been offered WL in TKGS and CO in SMSS. I want to put WL as my first choice. But I am not sure it’s a good decision or not.

:congrats:
Hi sweetpappi,
If SMSS is yr DD's choice school, putting in yr WL as 1st choice is the way to go. If u get WL converted yr DD's choice comes true. If WL not converted, you DO NOT loose your CO for TKGS.
Best wishes! -

:thankyou: :hi5:
:congrats: lee_yl, on your daughter's successful, GREAT CO
It was a great relief for both parents and child as my daughter only applied to one school. Phew, really nail bitting session

A)
TKGS not affiliated to any Junior college.
St Margaret Sec is affiliated to St Andrew Junior college, under Anglican religion. Means after O level, 2 points bonus given, if want to enter SAJC, for A level
Does it matter to you, whether u need this 2 points bonus affiliation, or not ?
If don't matter, e.g. U targeting other JC but not SAJC, then never mind.
B)
TKGS : only offer Express stream.
No Normal stream, in this school.
St Margaret : offer both Express & Normal stream.
Does it matter to you, the difference ?
If don't matter, ignore it. -
Thank you phttp and Esteema. My daughter wants to go JC after her O levels then the 2 points bonus will be a big advantage. But I am confused because TKGS got MEP programme that’s my only concern.

Hi Sweetpappi,
Since your preference seems to be the WL for TKGS, though you do have the SMSS CO in hand, then just put TKGS in first choice and SMSS in 2nd. That way, you won't have to fear losing your CO just in case TKGS WL does not convert. So our DD may not see each other in school after all
Personally, I think the O-Levels should not be a big problem. The MEP however, is not a program found in many schools. So if MEP is a key consideration, then it seems like TKGS would be the school you should not eliminate. -

Thanks Ms Tay for ur opinion. I feel the same as u. I will let my daughter choose the school.sweetpappi:
