This should be the David Marshall Scholarship. Can't remember how many percent for each Year 1 cohort (15% maybe?). If things haven't changed, the interviews are conducted in small groups of shortlisted students together with the principal and the VP. Parents can sit in and listen in. My DD results is average, only her English she does very well. When we received the call we asked what led to my DD being shortlisted and they mentioned that it was based on her performance in the TA.timewilltell:

For Year 1 the David Marshall scholarship is based on performance at TA. Subsequently based on results for academics and art form as mentioned. So possible for students not offered in Year 1 to be offered in other years. Likewise, some students offered in Year 1 may not be able to keep the scholarship in subsequent years if they do not meet the mark.

From what I learnt talking to the Science Teacher at TA, the issue of only doing one science is flexible. Yes, it effectively means giving up one's art form as per IB subject groupings if you choose double science, but from my understanding, SOTA would form a class for double science on a needs basis each year for \"exceptional\" students. Interestingly, one of the students asked to present a talk at TA to parents was a Y3 student who has fallen in love with science and is seriously considering pursuing two sciences. Also, I know of another IB student from a non MOE International School (who is on track for 45) who only has one Science but is looking at pursuing a Biomed degree overseas. She has done her research, spoke to admissions at the Uni she is hoping to go to and was told specifically that her subject choice re one science is adequate for entry and she did NOT need to drop her Artform. I think it depends on where and what specifically you are choosing to study, as it differs from Uni to Uni. There are many in SOTA who discover a latent love for science (maybe it's the way it's taught?) and are caught in this dilemma but are told they can still stay in SOTA despite dropping artform, provided they can timetable the double science.
Hi everyone. Have been reading this thread because DD is on WL (Literary Arts) for SOTA. I emailed SOTA to ask about double science because for Literary Arts have to switch to Film/Theatre in Y5 and Y6. This was their reply :
In Year 5 and 6, IBDP student is required to take 6 diploma subjects.
Student who would like to take additional science subjects has to switch their art subject (in your case, Film or Theatre) to another science subject while continue honoring the arts by taking an interdisciplinary Group 1 & 6 subject, Literature and Performance.
Just thought I'd share, in case anyone else had the same question. Not sure if it would apply to the other art forms. -
In March 2017 SOTA presented to Year 2 parents and students:- SUBJECT TALK
Year 3 and 4 subjects, Students will be taking these subjects for two years:-
1 ELCT
2 Literature in English
3 MT
4 Geography or History
5 Science
6 Maths
7 Art form (ie Music, VA, Dance, Theatre or LA)
8 PE which is known as Experiential education in SOTA
9 Character and Citizenship Education
Hence, in order to aim for double science in Years 5 and 6, you must secure your Foundation years Sciecnes well in Years 3 and 4. Again, I reiterate, the Science covered in SOTA for Years 1 to 4, is lesser compared to ACSI IB Years 1 to 4, so if the hope is to do double sciences in Year 5 and 6, go to ACSI or MGS IB track -

The chances are good. There will be kids not taking up confirm offer when PSLE results are out usually...or who opt to go mainstream for various reasons -
any parent can advise if the school allow students to use Apple Iwatch?

as far as i know, there are no restrictions on what kind of watch you can wear. However, since Apple has internet functions, you probably wont be allowed to wear it for exams, tests etc?

I would appreciate your feedback on tamil as second language in the IB program. There seems to be quite abit of mandarin materials for IB preparation but I can’t find any tamil self help or assessment books in the bookstore for the tamil standard IB program. Firstly Where can I find materials for Tamil? Secondly if the child is scoring about 60 - 70 at MTL in primary school, is it easy to cope for IB? What is the standard like? And how do you think the child can prepare for it? Thanks.
