There was a question that goes like this,

She wanted to (move away) but…
      1) exit
      2) retreat
      3) relocate
      4) vacate

What do you think is the correct answer?

      Synthesis and transformation

The cat feared the thunder. It hid under the sofa.
      Out of_________________________.

The author’s book had won an award. Mr Hamid invited the author to give a talk.

      __whose

              Answer : retreat

              Synthesis and transformation

The cat feared the thunder. It hid under the sofa.
Out of fear of the thunder, the cat hid under the sofa.

The author’s book had won an award. Mr Hamid invited the author to give a talk.

The author whose book had won an award was invited by Mr Hamid to give a talk.

              Or

Mr Hamid invited the author whose book had won an award to give a talk.

Depending on which sentence appeared first in the test paper, there is a preferred way of answering. HOWEVER, both are correct, so no worries there.

              Commas are optional.

                Is it wrong? Thanks

It is best to write \"Whose\" after the word Author\".
                  the author whose xxx

Otherwise you will have the problem of a dangling modifier.

                  Simply put, it means...
This raises the issue of who won the award? The author or the talk? If \"whose\" appears after that word \"talk\", you have that problem.

Tt is the reason why commas are recommended for whose qn. However, you will not be penalised for not using them.

How does one know won’t be penalized, if don’t put in comma appropriately ?

Is there any PSLE English rule, that state or document this :
Is it True that "No need any comma, won’t be penalized. Comma is optional " ?

                        Check this out.

The other synthesis qn that parents might need to know is that for the BUT question, you won't be penalised for not using the comma too.

                        Same with
                        Who whom whose.

Do check with your DD DS el teachers and Hod. It is one of the most commonly asked questions.
