my 龙江 square metal tin from crown prince hotel is now used to store my needles and threads. super durable. it was from the last batch of yam mooncakes before the restaurant closed down.

Totally agreed.[/quote]Part of the high cost for hotel mooncake is to box production .

Last small individual nice solid boxes I keep abt 2 to keep my costume jewellry- will change every year whenever I see nice small boxes. But I will not buy myselffor such White elephant , thankful its a gift
The above one is like a antique jewellry box made of solid card boxes n thin wood - I think I will put it on my long cabinet in the room ( also to store daily earrings that I usually match with my daily baju to work) -
The boxes are great when we present the mooncakes as gifts. Else give me the mooncakes in paperbags would do.
Am feeling comfortable after the heavy downpour -

I would prefer that mooncakes come with the most basic packaging, and the boxes and tins as optional extras with an additional charge. Those who are giving them as gifts or actially want them can purchase the boxes, and fewer boxes will be wasted. After all these years, I have collected enough boxes for my odds and ends that I don't need any more! -
Actually mooncakes should come in 2 wrapping…1) simple boxes for own consumption so that it’s cheaper 2) fanciful boxes as gifts. Since mooncakes start selling around Chinese 7th month, it is pantang to give as gifts. Then when 8th month begins, sellers can offer mooncakes in fancy boxes. Yesterday brother bought East ocean yam moon cakes. The box is not practical. So wasted to throw but pointless keeping.

That's good idea.
In fact, we asked to leave the mooncakes in the plastic bag despite it comes with nice boxes. Coz i find it a hassle to throw away the box...
If it is fr our own consumption, I find it a waste to throw away those nice boxes n packaging. Don't know hw to recycle it as the box is impractical as u mentioned.
