        Musings:

        Here is DS explanation.

Yes the crux is that the shapes are all cut outs.

The beam of light shines right through the circle (1st sheet). Circle of light is larger than the triangle because the sheet with circle cut out is furthest from the screen. Therefore, the light which falls on the screen is the triangle shape. The square is transparent.

Since the square is transparent, we treat it as non existent.

In pic A, the triangle is called silhouette not shadow.

In pic B, we see the shadow of the cut out circle.

May I know what is the exact question?

I don’t quite get the question too.

But my understanding is the further an object from screen (nearer to light source), the bigger shadow on screen.
The nearer an object to screen (further from light source), the smaller the shadow.

Qns as 1st picture so answer is triangle

Both Math and Sci killer again! I don't really like this especially since some kids are more inclined towards languages. Sp since easy paper, everyone else also do well then their T score for languages will drop despite it being the best subject for the student. 😞 DD is scared because she didn't have time to check section B, she has a terrible habit of being too kaisu and writing too much. Some of her friends didn't finish either(top class). So far haven't heard anyone say Science paper was manageable/easy(must be prodigy if say easy). All say harder than 2016, challenging etc. Moderation will be on our side. πŸ™

Also what is the frog mosquito actual question? Heard colleagues DC say they got confused by question. DD forgot the question . :slapshead:

But if the responses for the MCQ show 4 different shadows, then probably nothing to do with a silhouette.

Strictly speaking, Pic A, you see the shadow of a square, with a triangular hole.

If the MCQ choices only show black shadows of different shapes, then the cut-outs will be those of circle and triangle and NOT a triangular hole in the middle of a an opaque material.

Agree Science is tougher than 2016. DS said Booklet B answers require a lot of explanation. Questions are also unusual so one must be strong in concepts in order to arrive at correct analysis.

Was Maths considered difficult? Trying to get a better sense. If easy paper, mean and A* benchmark will be pushed up. Most of DS classmates even those not strong in maths found Paper 2 easy compared to prelims. Paper 1 has some tricky questions but impact should be small since question is at most 2 marks.

The problem is : once get stuck in Section B open-ended qn, don’t even have time to finish answering, where got time to check ?
