2017 PSLE Discussions and Strategies

SpartanMum:
Wow I need to show your post to my dc to give him hope! It's exactly how my kid felt throughout the entire paper. After the paper I asked him how he will fare he totally cannot gauge. He told me it's the toughest paper he has ever done. He done 2016 and some tough 2017 prelim like RGS and SCGS but I saw his defeated face I can't asked any more just tell him go play ipad lahJust sharing a bit of experience. Last year's Science paper was tough also. I do not know how tough it was in relation to this year. But my DS said it was the toughest Science paper he had ever done. So many parts and he did not finish one question. He felt like towards the end he was rushing thru and had to abandon all the advice about being meticulous that his teachers and myself had emphasized to him. Frankly speaking, he was utterly devastated after the paper and told me he might fail.
He didn't - he got an Astar.
1) If the paper is deemed hard by those who consistently do well in Science, then it is likely that the paper is hard
2) As we all know, the cohort performance determines the cut offs for the various grades.
Please do not be discouraged. Take heart.
Enjoy the end of PSLE

My DD has the same feeling towards science paper. I did show her this post but still unable to convince her, she said this happened to that boy but definitely not her…so sad.

My DD has concluded that all papers were either tougher or trickier than all prelim papers and past psle papers she had done.
In any case, what's done cannot be undone as I explained to her and consoled myself as well. So we got to move on now and plan for the worst, if she is not going to meet her dream score. If her score gets her to Express stream but not her dream school, then how? If her score only allows her to go Normal stream then which school is a good school to go to - 'cos now every school is a good school, right? -
Refer to the P6 booklet given, to help you choose Secondary schools ?
Look at their COP, narrow down those better Secondary schools around your area, so that your child Sec 1 next year, don’t have to waste time travelling so far to and fro, everyday.
Next year, Sec 1 : one big change they face is : no more 4 subjects. Become 8, is a different ball game.
Time management, is crucial -

My DD was initially confident in preparing for the PSLE exam. But her confident level dropped after every paper till she totally refused to talk about it after she took the last science paper, she said she tried to forget about her sadness.

Well … what can we say about a national exam such as PSLE where even P6 school teachers got many of the answers wrong themselves, especially Science?

@chanus88: sorry to hear about how your DD is feeling. My DD also refused to talk about some of the Qs I asked her in order to gauge where she stands in her results. As such, I decided to let her know the harsh reality she would have to face if her score isn’t up to her and our expectations. She didn’t utter a single word but just nodded her head.
Right now all we can do is to adjust our own expectation and theirs and slowly guide them through this phase and then the next phase which is their sec school life - and that will be a different set of problems/challenge to face…
Cheer her up and let her know she is not alone out there. Don’t let this exam set her back. Life doesn’t depend all on this. She will be special in her own way when she adopts a positive thinking! -
Thanks Tigressina!
She commented why MOE is cruel this year and asked me to search for Secondary school with lowest COP requirement to express stream.
