This is known as verbs of perception. The word to fill in the blanks is a \"bare infinitive\" means a verb in its basic form.
Verbs of perception
The verb of perception (see, watch, notice, hear, listen, feel) are followed by bare infinitive or by -ing form (present participle).
If we want to say that we heard or saw the whole action from beginning to end, we usually use bare infinitive
I saw him sign the cheque.
If we want to say that only saw or heard part of the action, we use -ing form
I saw the consultant waiting in reception.
(I saw consultant. He was waiting in reception.)
Bare infinitives Formal defintion
The bare infinitive is used as the main verb after the dummy auxiliary verb do, or most modal auxiliary verbs (such as will, can, or should). So, \"I will/do/can/etc. see it.\" -

Your English is the weakest because you think it is your weakest. You are what you think.
Instead of worrying about how you need to improve your English, why not just enjoy yourself reading the Straits Times and stories that you enjoy, and imagine yourself to be the editor? How would YOU have written those articles? After reading each article and think about how YOU can summarize the entire article in a one short paragraph, capturing the essence of the article.
If you do this religiously for 21 days, one article a day, I will guarantee you will start being able to do it unconsciously in under 5 mins per article. Continue for another 21 days and it will become an unconscious habit you can do in your mind. Continue for another 21 days and you will be able to handle any comprehension or essay writing thrown at you.
