Is it because your friend is planning ahead, feel safer with the presence of an \"insurance\" net available, Cedar being a dual-tracked IP school ?
In the event if after attempt two years of IP, find that IP not suitable or cant cope, one can still request to Transfer back to O level track : since there are an eqivalent majority number of O level students there, in terms of the number of O level classss opened in Cedar, unlike RGS being only a single-track IP school ?
Your friend do have a sane mind, because she maybe planning ahead. -
There were cases that an elder sibling didn’t like the school culture so the younger one decide to go somewhere else.

RGS is a good brandname but child must be able to thrive in that kind of highly competitive environment, if not, I think might be more dampening on the child…so no RGS for us…our children are not competitive at all…

True. Why NYGH & RGS both top brand names, but somehow RGS is so "challenging" than NYGH. I did not DSA RGS for my dd too, may be heard too many negative stories abt RGS.

Just gave up cedar IP CO, if results ok will choose rgs follow by cedar

If only half-hearted, not really keen to enter Cedar (IP) while your daughter’s dream school is actually RGS, can understand why you decide to give up Cedar CO.
If can get T-score around 261 and above, can enter RGS.
If can get T-score around 255, can enter Cedar (IP).
Since this year 2017 PSLE (Maths and Science ) were tough, maybe T-score to enter above Two schools … lowered ? I recalled there was one batch, where the Cut-off-point (COP) to enter RGS, was 258, in that year many P6 students rejoiced, because they all could enter RGS.
Do you think this year possible to repeat : COP drop to 25X, for RGS, no need 261 so high? -
Thanks much for sharing insights, appreciate. Actually the main reason giving up IP is becos do not want to get tied down for 6 years so long, when we not even sure how the education landscape is going to get disrupted in the next few years… unless it is the top JC then can take chance to commit 6 yrs, just keeping our options open after Sec sch
So worse case go back cedar but will opt for O levels instead, anyway dual track who knows can change after Sec1/2 -

RGS have more female Geppers than other IP schools ... hence environment there is very competitive, together with the Mainstream students.
At end of Sec 2, if can't perform in IP at RGS, the Teachers will talk to affected students and parents. They are expected to buck up and pull up their socks, for the next two years (Sec 3 and 4), with the help of RGS Tr.
By end of Sec 4, if still cannot cope, or fail to meet promotion criteria to enter year 5 RI, they can ask you to exit the school. -

Not quite correct. The t-score COP will lower only if the papers were easy. The year the RGS COP was 258, the Psle papers were generally easy. I will predict that the COP of RGS (and similarly-tiered schools) will remain about the same (+/-1) - papers were tough so t-scores wider spread, more will get higher t scores, but the % of spots available for PSLE posting will go up by about 15% (due to a decrease in number offered via DSA), so probably about the same?
