For JAE 2018, all 16 JCs stated: "The cut-off points of all JCs may increase in 2018 JAE due to the increase in intake numbers for all participating JCs in 2018."
So we will be expecting a increase of COP by 1 to 2 points for these 16 JCs?
The upcoming JAE will be a guessing game for parent/student choosing their JCs of their choice. -
NotEducatedMan:
Increase in COP meaning from say 8 the previous year to 10 this year, as participating JCs are increasing their intake. I expect the COP for those non-participating JCs to stay about the same, especially the top JCs. Impact will be more on the merged JCs.For JAE 2018, all 16 JCs stated: \"The cut-off points of all JCs may increase in 2018 JAE due to the increase in intake numbers for all participating JCs in 2018.\"

For this case, I suppose COP for top JCs more or less will remain the same..

mid-tier between -1 to +1..
merged JCs increase by 2 pts. & above..

Let's say the COP is 7. Which L1R5 has the priority?grownupbaby:
Thanks VitoRelax. So, it is the same algorithm as Sec 1 posting. The only difference is that for T-score there is decimal point but not for L1R5, it will involve balloting if the score is the same.
For simplicity, we just assumed that there are only 2 types of bonus points of 2 and 4 (meaning only -2 and -4)
Then the algorithm goes like this.
First those with the lowest nett score gets to select the school. So, 2 is the lowest bcos there are 6 subjects in L1R5 (ie 6-4=2)
So all those Singaporean with 6-4=2 gets to select which school they wanna go. If there are say 8 Singapreans with 6-4=2, then these 8 students are randomly selected by computer to see who gets to select first.
The next batch are PRs with 6-4=2
Then international students with 6-4=2
Then, it goes to the next number up, ie batch with nett score of 3 and so on ...
When it reach batch with nett score of 4, it is like this:
The next batch are Singaporeans with 6-2=4
Then Singaporeans with 8-4=4
Then PRs with 6-2=4
Then RRs with 8-4=4
Then international students with 6-2=4
Then international students with 8-4=4
Then, it goes to the next number up, ie batch with 5 and so on ...
Hope that helps
7 - 0 = 7 (raw score)
8 - 2 = 6 (nett score)
9 - 4 = 5 (nett score)
Assume all are Singaporean -
NotEducatedMan:
The nett score is used to determine who gets priority to get into a JC. In the above case, 5 will get in before 6, followed by 7.
Let's say the COP is 7. Which L1R5 has the priority?
7 - 0 = 7 (raw score)
8 - 2 = 6 (nett score)
9 - 4 = 5 (nett score)
Assume all are Singaporean
The scenario is for e.g. with one place left and two students with 7 points. One is 7-0=7 and another is 9-2=7. In this case, the raw 7 will have priority over the raw 9.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. -

I was thinking about this issue too. H of G - if you wish to sell A level stuff, I think you should confine yourself to the materials you created yourself. I believe that many of your fellow students would look askance at selling school-provided materials.

Hi there,
I’ve just received my Olevel results yesterday and went for many jc open houses today. My L1R5 is 7, so after deduction for cca is 5. I don’t take hmt. I’m having a dilemma in choosing the right jc experience for me. Currently, I’m looking at either having acjc or vjc as my first choice. I’m affiliated to acjc, so with the cut off for science stream being 7, I would be able to enter with a score of 3. But for vjc, the cut off being 5 this year of the science stream, I would have just made the cut off point for that school. I live in the north east area, so travelling to both these schools would easily take an hour each by public transport.
Can someone give me some advice or insides to the difference in these two schools? Particularly in the culture, environment and inclusiveness. Been to both open houses and love the work and play but still study environment (as told by the student guides) of both of their jcs.
Thank you

Hi there, I think you are being very wise in asking around for advice about the difference in environment/culture of your narrowed-down schools. During my time, I neglected to consider the vast differences in culture between certain JCs. Ended up in a JC where I felt so out of place & my 2 years there were miserable and affected my studies too. Looking back, I should not even have put it as one of my choices (even though by COP I just managed to get into science there). I ended up bottom of the top class. I should have chosen a lower-ranked school where it was less stressful and where I could shine instead of being marked as bottom all the time.Hi there,

Anyway, my general advice is, since u are from the affiliated school, ACJC will most likely have a similar culture and many of your friends will be there I suppose.
So...if u have enjoyed your secondary school’s culture, just stick with ACJC. Conversely, if u absolutely hated the culture, choose VJC instead. I’m not sure what’s the culture there, except for many of the boys will be from Victoria School I suppose.
I hope there are others who could tell u more about the difference between ACJC and VJC...I also am curious :boogie:
