My DD Tscore is 266, she is now considering RGS, anyone here has DC with RGS? Can share the school culture and learning environment? Do the teachers really teach and girls are helping each other?

hello! i am currently an upper sec rgs student so i can definitely help you with this (personally though, not DC :rotflmao: :rotflmao: )

the transition from primary school to secondary school is tough, but the school has a whole orientation programme for all y1 students (my year had an overnight camp), where everyone could learn more about the school, get drowned in the thunderous school cheers, gets introduced to our enthusiastic house system, and get comfortable with their classmates. i could say this eased the transition by A LOT, together with the support of the teachers and seniors.

when it comes to academic help, it is very important for students to approach their teacher at once whenever she is unsure of what's going on in class, and not only when exams are approaching as teachers might be 'fully booked for consultation'. if you ask for the help, you will definitely get it. based on personal experience, teachers here could range a lot, from the not-so-good, to those who could engage the whole class actively in every lesson! (most of them are the second one ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ) since we have the macbook system, both teachers and students make use of technology a lot, aka at least half of our lesson notes are on google drive, easily accessible at least ๐Ÿ™‚

do we help each other? of course we do! we aren't exactly THAT competitive when it comes to academics, just make some good friends and whenever someone is struggling in school, they would be glad to help that person. just before end of year exams, seniors from one year above would also compile all their notes from their previous year to 'donate' to the year below. you could say our sisterhood here is quite strong!

overall, i would say my rgs experience so far has been really tough but enriching at the same time. stress and lack of sleep could hit students during the exam periods, but thats what makes us stronger and the 'shared pains of struggling' just makes us bond more and more with our peers. typed this in a rush so this reply could be a little slipshod, but if you have any more questions you can approach me ๐Ÿ˜›

Thank you for sharing the information. I have some more questions and PM you, can advise?

Lower the expectation so that can manage better later. Just pray that my gal can get into Express can liao ....

This year, your daughter's school did not just well, but very, very well.

Even as the Teachers in school helped to sort out PSLE results early this morning, the Tr cheered aloud, because many girls did so well, bumper crop harvest this year ๐Ÿ™‚

So many Top students went up the stage, as P was very happy for the girls, flashed out the names by individual P6 class, one by one, calling them to go up the stage. Congratulations to all of you ๐Ÿ™‚

          :thankyou:
Actually it's good to lower expectation; as the feeling was totally different when my dd's name was called out. Phew! What a relief!

Just curious, as it seems like quite a lot of kids did well this year, but how come ESIS COP the same as last year? Or the bumper crop hovers around 250-260, but the top 3% remains >=262 (and the 3% just had wider range of better scores?)

Need some help on clearing uncertainty. DC got A for Chinese and Merit for HMTL. However, was not offered the option to offer HMTL in the S1 option form cos not within top 30%. I was told that school has the flexibility to approve the request of opting in for HMTL? How do we do this? Do we inform the school on registration day?

It seems that the top scores this year is very high. Many seems to be doing better. Has the scores all moved up? Or does this mean that there are also more doing badly and bigger pool in the middle but we just dont hear about?

Yes. On 22 Dec, the sec sch will typically hold a briefing for students & parents (may not be grouped together). You will be told where to pick up the HMTL application forms (usu at GO).

Thanks for reply. So even though my dc''s S1 option slip did not indicate that dc cam offer HMTL, we can still do so?

May i know whether it is bad to not fill in all 6 choices? Dd doesnโ€™t have 6 choices in mind, but rather only 3. She picked out another 3 to fill in, but she doesnโ€™t have a strong passion for that 3, unlike the first 3. We are pretty sure we can get into anderson (her aggregrate score is 250, anderson cop 245 last year), so i adviced her to leave the last three blank. Was this the wrong advice? Are there any cons abt this?
