I am one of the affected parents.... stressed over this changes... dunno why they put this rule... dragon babies some more... how to get in!

presently the MOE kindergartens are not in many primary schools...otherwise it will create a big shift for kids to register in those kindergartens, since next year is p1 registration for dragon year kids.
MOE K will definitely be next battle ground...poor kindergartens will suffer a drop in enrolment.

The change is timely for DD2 as she is currently studying in an MOE Kindergarten. Prefers the school as it is within walking distance.

The school is ideal as it is next to my mil block. Previously, did not consider as it requires balloting at phase 2C.

Quite a number of these schools are already balloting in Phase 2C. I think it’s just a matter of time before MOE K becomes the next battle ground for places.
          Precisely.
it is just pushing the kiasu-ness 4 years earlier.....

Can anyone imagine, next time MOE Kindy may need PV, clan and grassroots involvements.
or even MP letter to get in.

Moe kindy is only about 4hrs. They dont have any spelling excercise (unlike some pte childcare). Parents would have to be comfortable to accept this.

Now parents would be just placing their child in Moe just to secure an earlier phase for pri 1 registration. Esp for punggol view pri, its quite a popular choice.

              Different methologies.

To some extent, MOE K methologies (exploration, self discovery, etc) and the new PSLE banding reflect a change in MOE approach, which is away from rote learning. Won’t be surprised to see further adjustments coming in primary curriculum (if not done already).

Yes, also no tingxie or Han Yu Pin Yin. Parents probably need to teach or send for enrichment.

The Chinese teacher explained that they focus on building of characters (笔画)rather than 死背硬记. This helps them to remember better. 笔顺 is also important.

Not much written work in K1 but teachers explained there will be more written work in K2.

They encourage the kids to question what they see and learn through their hands on work. They should not be afraid to make mistakes. In the process, train them to be independent learner and develop their perseverance and team work.

They are prepping them for primary school academic but not in the traditional sense as primary school curriculum is changing and evolving. They are a little ahead of the curve (as you would expect, coming from the same curriculum design team) and as with all changes, some parents prefer the old ways.

E.g. in Chinese, their approach is 听说读写. 写 - which incorporates tingxie, comes last and is really a minimal (nearly none).
Similarly, in Science, approach is exploration and discovery. There’s little point in memorizing which animal is a live birth and which one lays egg because you could, and the kids will remind you, always google. Rather, the kids will go and find out how things are / how it works and then design a model / presentation based on what they learnt / discovered. It is an early exposure to Project Work.

from my understanding, MOE kindy is in line with MOE's new directions.

he is in charge of ICT in a primary school...for the p1s, they will be learning microsoft word next year, powerpoint in p2.
