I have come across a similar case. The student was rejected by NUSH during DSA round 1 but was subsequently accepted via SIE. The outcome after one year of study at NUSH - he did better than many selected through DSA.

I daresay what is more important is a student’s attitude (willingness to learn & interest in Math & Science) as well as consistency whilst going through the NUSH programme. Also, there are many paths (electives, 3rd Lang., Olympiads, CCAs, subject majors, honours & etc) to choose from. One has to choose wisely, seek advice, don’t take more than he/she can handle. All the best to your DS.

My DS just got confirmation to go NUS High. Any of your kids go NUS High and regretted ? How many % stress level higher than taking A Level?

from personal experience, teachers notify students of weeks with many tests/high workload/due projects, so students should know what to expect. honestly, it's all a matter of getting used to the pace and school environment, and seeking help from peers/teachers when needed. after a semester or two, it's not all that stressful!

at least, for the core curriculum. signing up for olympiads/leadership positions/VIA etc. should be purely based off your child's interest and whether they can cope. i've seen a lot of my peers drop out of olympiads and electives after only 1/2 semesters and frankly, it's quite a shame because the slots are super limited.

Need to attend interview as well for supplementary intake?
DS entered via DSA. However, I am just satisfying curiousity as another friend with a child interested in 2019 Sec 1 intake has enquired about this - :?

Just wondering if ALL selected SIE applicants have to go for an interview. It appears from their website selected applicants MAY be invited for an interview.

Need to attend interview as well for supplementary intake?
He didnt attend any interview but seemed like they did consider his previous nus high olympiad score to gauge his suitability.

Are electives counted in CAP point? Does anyone know why certain subjects are under electives list and some under elective/enrichment list? Any difference between both?

My DC graduated last year (2016). I'm not too sure if the policy remains.

Any special Electives taken (eg Foreign Lang, Japanese ) if done well eg A grade can be added to CAP computation in the junior (Y1/2) and (Y3/4) else they can be simply ignored (if they don't help to raise CAP. Enrichment has not CAP computation.

A key policy during my DC year is MT can be included or excluded in NUSH Graduation CAP (either way - which ever bring up the highest CAP possible), so any DC poor in MT are not at a disadvantage in final NUSH CAP computation.

                      Hope that help. 😄

Hi, My DD wants to transfer school to NUS High very badly. She is in Secondary 2 next year and enjoys math and science, but the problem is that her results in Sec 1 are not as high for a strong applicant for NUS high for a math and science school. Her PSLE scores are also quite average(241) with an A in math and science. Is there any way I can help her?? She seems very willing.. is it also possible if a non IP school girl get into NUS high as well? :xedfingers:
