A friend told me there’s no need to inform school whether to opt in or opt out for HMT as all RGS girls must take HMT. Same for RI. I told her that she better check with her school on 22nd Dec.

Definitely not true. The majority of students take HMT but it's not compulsory.

I can vouch for RGS at least - my daughter sat in an MT class. But majority of the girls took HMT.

Probably because it's a very large majority who take HMT. I think they put the girls who take MT in a few classes (the classes split up during MT/HMT periods) to make timetabling easier, so there will be classes where everyone takes HMT.

Does anyone know why the quality pass rate (A & A*) for Mother Tongue has always been consistently higher than other subjects? Based on historical records, the national quality pass rate for other subjects is 40+% vs Mother Tongue of 70+%.

I thought the results are moderated across the subjects? This look distorted... and many students struggled with Mother Tongue yet 70+% bagged A and A*? :?

Can you point us to the historical records?
Based on the https://data.gov.sg/dataset/percentage-of-psle-students-who-scored-a-c-by-subject?resource_id=e01fd2b4-d394-4940-ad5c-c8a7c83412e9, the performance has been fairly consistent. Overall results indicate that moderation is indeed in place and doesn’t look like there is bias across subjects.

Based on the https://data.gov.sg/dataset/percentage-of-psle-students-who-scored-a-c-by-subject?resource_id=e01fd2b4-d394-4940-ad5c-c8a7c83412e9, the performance has been fairly consistent. In the past many years, many primary schools have been posting their school performance of quality passes (A and A*) against national level performance on their websites. Some schools also disclosed their average PSLE T-score. But in recent years, most have stopped in line with MOE direction.

I just managed to find this info from CHIJ Katong slides but it is based on 2016 PSLE performance. However, the results are of the same trend that I remember seeing over the past many years
