Agreed.Ksptan:
Quite worry about the COP this year, being caught in this unforseen circumstances and MOE is not releasing enough information.
Not only MOE, JC themselves also not willing to comment much about the increase of their intake next year. Keep diverting attention by saying depend on supply & demand that will determine their COP for next year intake :slapshead:
Without knowing the number of students the JCs intend to increase the intake, how are the students going to fill up their JAE form.
Is your DC under this year Olevel batch? -

Without knowing such information, is difficult to decide on the choice of school when filling up the JAE form.
I suspect the MOE had advised JCs to increase their intake, but the JCs (esp. top/mid JCs) are reluctant to increase / increase much, so to avoid any possibility of increase on their COP for next year. -

My elder DC too.
My opinion is JCs also cannot increase much with the present facilities (availability of classroom, lab), resources (teachers for additional tutorial classes) they have. -
Ksptan:
There’s no reason to believe that the top / mid tier JCs will be increasing their class size given that there are enough JC places in total to meet demand (after merger) and physical constraints (facilities, teacher / student ratio, etc) limit the potential for growth.

Hence, there’s really no need to fret over the change unless you are > 15 points and thinking of JC. When applying, can safely assume the COP for the top / mid tier JCs not affected by the merger should largely remain the same. -
(Update): JAE-2018 Application Questions
Hi, I’ve manged to speak to a MOE Customer Service Officer and she has answered most of my questions , I’ve summarized below:
1.\tJAE-2018 application/registration is open for 6 days on next month after the GCE “O” level results tentatively to be released between 11 January 2018 and 15 January 2018.
2.\tAll eligible GCE “O” level students with any year GCE “O” exam results can apply and for past years students can use the SingPass account ID to obtain a code after 6 hours to log-in JAE-IS system for registration.
3.\tMOE CSO mentioned that once student applicant can log-in to the JAE-IS, the system is transparent to all applications and treated equally regardless of which year of GCE “O" level results as the student courses eligibility will be assessed during the SingPass ID 6 hours phase.
4.\tAs for student has previously admitted through past years JAE-IS system for the poly courses can only re-apply with the poly DAE system and not through JAE-IS system.
5.\tFor impending merger of 4 pairs JC and MOE is unable to comment on the COP at this point of time and it will depend on next JC students in-take numbers and each JC is supposed to inform MOE the final in-take numbers for MOE to input into the JAE-IS system.
6.\tCSO also mentioned that with regard to the upcoming merger of 4 pairs of JCs, the remaining JCs will be able to increase their intake of students in the 2018 JAE and this may result in an increase in cut-off points for some participating JCs in the 2018 JAE, essentially the COP variations will not reflect the quality of the JCs programmes.
The CSO replies generally were similar to JAE-2018 booklets and overall impression I got was the JCs COP maybe increased, however there was not specific mentioned that only limit to the 4 pairs of JCs.
Thanks again for all the parents here in KSP has replied to my questions and I would appreciates anyone can provide good suggestions for a reference.
Best regards. -
Thanks waggerbear for your reply and not mentioned , I had got some good information from KSP here too.
Best Regards. -
Hi parents, not too sure if this is the correct forum but I’m from this year’s O Level batch who is leaning towards going to JC next year.
I am rather keen on doing IB at SJI but there isn’t a lot of information as to school life and academics in SJI Senior School. I would want to know how is school life in general in SJI, and how busy one can get throughout the week and what to expect, especially with the demands of IB over 2 years. I hope to hear from current students/alumni/parents about their time there
Thank you! -

Hello! I would like to ask around for advice regarding this combination in JC
H2 Chemistry, H2 Geography, H2 Math and H1 Econs
Are there any Jcs that accept this combi? In addition, I would also like to ask if a hybrid combi is seen as a science stream or art stream?
Thank you in advance! -

Can't advise you on which JCs, but it seems to me like some/most should. But I don't really know.Hello! I would like to ask around for advice regarding this combination in JC

Hybrid combos are considered \"science\".
