Tanjong Katong Girls' School

Am also keen to find out about the teaching environment, teachers and support, school hours. So far I have received feedback from ex-alumni that TKGS is a good school with good reputation. All girls school is actually a plus point for me as dd is in one and I was from an all girls school for 10 yrs. I find that the strongest friendships were made in all girls schools. Only concern for me is that no affiliation to any JC and looking at the scary JC cut off pts now, I am unsure of where to put TKGS in my ranking.

Hi ddtan and gersy,
I attended TKGS Open House on 18 Nov. They conducted a separate session on 25 Nov for parents to meet with their leaders. I attended that too. I do not have a daughter in TKGS. From the principal's talk and slides, I gather TKGS is a well balanced school. It does well in both academia and sports. The school emphasizes on developing a child's character. Leadership roles are aplenty. They have an unusual wide spread of CCA offerings. Like sailing and softball. It is evidence of the P's commitment to a well balanced education. Some Ps talk about \"holistic\" education only. To sound good. Study their CCAs and you will realize it is BS.
I spoke with three Sec 4 alumni students on 25 Nov. Their experience synchronizes with their P's vision. They are generally happy, mature, articulate and confident.
To me, an all girl's school is a plus. You don't want your 15 y.o. daughter making out with her male classmate in the toilet. However, if you are really looking forward to being a grand parent, hey don't let me stop you. 100% of TKGS students make it to JC/Poly so you don't have to worry about going to a JC. Its a matter of which JC. If you are aiming for RI, HCJC or VJC, that's a different story - you should tick off Learning Lab in your selection and not choose a school. Lol. Yes, TKGS is not affiliated to any school. It is a 2 edged sword. It means everyone that makes it into TKGS are there on their own merit. No cliques or social circles to break into. Everyone has to make friends afresh. The downside is there is no affiliation to a JC either.
I will put TKGS as my first choice. Unfortunately, as I just discovered a few days ago, it is not my views that matter. I have to want what my dd want. Yea, I know. It sucks. These teenagers have their own mind. :slapshead: -
After " O " level, usually which JC(s) do majority of TKGS girls end up in, for "A" level ?

Hi all,
Heard from my daughter the drop in COP last year from 236 to 229 is most likely due to the shift to a holding site at bedok. I don’t think it’s because of anything else as there weren’t contrasting changes in last year’s batch who took the Os. Quite disappointing.
as this is a girls school, there is bound to be drama. I mean what can u expect when it’s just a school full of girls…? Everyone goes through that kind of drama in girls school. But don’t worry they’ll get over it quickly.
Dd said students are mostly nice and caring towards friends and teachers. Standard of exam papers r pretty high but it’s to train them well for Os. Every level has a fair share of “consultation period” every week for students to make use of this time to seek help from teachers on subjects that they do not do so well in. Students may use e time for self-revision as well. It is NOT an after curriculum thing, it is during curriculum time. Heard from dd also every tues morning got self study period. By the way, school ends at 2.40pm almost every day. CCA dismissal time varies for different CCA. Teachers r friendly and r willing to help. Also, there r very strict rules in TKGS. Spot checks are conducted quite often, if rules are broken, a booking slip would be issued. No usage of hand phones in class, only in certain parts of e school. If caught, confiscated. Each year there will only be one triple sci class as not many ppl want to take, or cannot qualify. Think triple sci class every year will take in china scholars. Econs offered in sec 3 is the econs taught in JC, NOT home econs. Think is just simpler and easier ver. of the A level one.
Most girls will opt to go VJC, TJC because in the east mah.
Overall, I don’t think I regret making my dd join this school, the environment is good and for sure she’ll make friendships that’ll last for life.
Hope I helped. -
What kind of drama are you referring?

The Cut-off point for TKGS, 2018 Secondary 1 admission (ie. 2017 PSLE batch, born 2005) is :
231
It has risen by 2 points, from 229 (2016 batch) to 231 (2017, this year). -
For CCAs, what is the selection process, especially for sports? Do girls get to choose or the school will choose the potential ones?

Hi all,
I would like to check whether any parents are interested to share car pooling service from Sengkang to TKGS every morning.
If interested, you could contact me at 8113 2700 to arrange. My elder girl is now at S1 of TKGS this year.
Thank you in advance.

anyone going TKGS from AMK or Bishan?
What is the fastest route and any car-pooling? -
