Air ticket cost included. We stayed near hamamatsucho station. It’s an office area and near to plenty of eateries and minimarts.Cloud Cloud:
We went Tokyo and Osaka in early Dec for 8 days. Spent about $10k, all in. It was 2A2C.
Hi, does it include Air ticket as well? those i spoke to tell me at least 15k for 12 days.

Kevinlu:
Very doable. I just did 12 days for 4 pxs at around usd12k, including sgd160 for each train ticket from tokyo to kyoto and kansai hiroshima pass to travel to hiroshima.Cloud Cloud:

Try to do open jaw and fly our from kansai airport, then you wont need to buy japan rail pass -
We did within $15K for 16 days staying in Osaka, Tokyo (most expensive), Nagoya, Kinosakionsen, & Hakone in October. Airfare ard 3K on SQ, accommodation ard 8K and food is very affordable & shopping & gifts. We bought JR Rail tickets fr SG & Disney tickets fr KLOOK (print before u leave & ensure all serial numbers hv no duplicates.)
My frd’s family planned too last minute this month & no flights hv to travel to LA & Kansas before SG return. Hotel also all out for them & they’ve to pay for real high end for entire family of 5 pax -
So if i fly to toyko and back from osaka. it’s not worth to buy the 14day JR pass?
Will still be travelling 1 way to osaka or vise versa, plus disney land/sea and other attractions which can be covered within 14 days. Hope to visit ski resort too.
if not buying the JR pass, will the transport be more expensive considering will be travelling everyday? -
Depends on your itinerary, it’s better to plan your trip according to your targeted location u wish to visit.
We plan our trips such that first few days we sightsee where we arrived & stay at hotel and only activate the JR Rail after we’ve completed our target sightseeing locations, and maximize our JR Rail pass traveling back & forth to cover all the farther sightseeing locations & then end with last few days near hotel after last day of JR pass. There’s always the limousine bus to bring the family & luggages to airport.
Hence, we bought 14 days’ pass to travel fr Osaka to Tokyo and in btwn cover Kyoto, Kinosakionsen, Nagoya, Hakone, etc. Tske the super-fast train which runs on off-peak hour & save a lot of time as those normal & fast train takes longer hours.
If you’re not visiting too far off or too many places, you can consider 7-day JR Pass. Getting fr Osaka to Tokyo can be costly on JR. The subway can’t bring u beyond local prefectures. If you’ve too many luggages, you can send via local service which is super efficient. We left one big luggage with the hotel in Osaka & retrieve on day of leaving for airport, to minimize lugging ard too many of our bigger luggage. We took only the hand-carry with us & 1 large luggage for shopping stuff. -

12k doable if doesn't include air-tickets.
Thanks, the amount you mention don't sound too bad. im looking at about 12-14 days and budget of 12k all in. not sure if it's too tight, if it is then i might just settle for korea which is definitely very doable with my budget.
did your expenses include disneyland/sea? i think train ticket to osaka alone is about 300 per pax.
I didn't do disneyland/sea but we took the very costly cab from airport to hotel and vice-versa (because of aged parents)
For hotels, go to this website, you can make your comparison there.

And after you have decided on your hotel. Don't book it first, go to the hotel's official website and compare the price. Sometimes it can be cheaper or if you book online direct further discount may be given.
We did two day tours during this 7-day trip and I find it value for money. You save on your transport and lunch is included. Saves you the hassle especially as you have 2 kids with you.
You can check out these sites for the day tours.

Try to settle and pay for as much as you can before your trip. So you have a clearer idea of your remaining budget and you need not bring as much cash with you.
Hope the info helps! -

We went 14 days tokyo,kyoto,osaka..
Only took Shinkansen 1-way from tokyo to osaka, but we still Bought 7days JR pass & activated on the day we travel from tokyo to osaka,
& went day trips via shinkansen with reserved seats, from shin-osaka station to Kyoto(2 days, only 15min ride save a lot of time),hiroshima & miyajima, kobe rokkosan snow park,
Himeji & kobe premium outlet on same day,& also went nara & USJ on last day of pass...
Another advantage of getting Jr pass is, after reserving seats for train ride,if u happen to prefer to stay longer at say Kyoto,or u miseed the train due to unexpected delay, just have to re-book at counter with no extra charges at all...
(thanks to Esteema for sharing on this:)
(Am Not sure if u book & paid for 1-way ticket & missed the train, can they re-issue another timing?)
Roughly calculated, total cost for 1 adult is ard $750, but we paid only ard $338 for 7day JR pass..so for a family of 2A2C,we saved a lot of time & more than $1000! -
Nice! I just did the same areas last 2 weeks, but i didnt buy the rail pass. I took 1 way from tokyo to kyoto, then use the 5days kansai hiroshima pass for day trips out of kyoto… total about sgd330 but no reserved seatings, and not allowed to use shinkansen between osaka and kyoto

thanks for all the reply.

got alot to read up before deciding to get the pass or not. I might just stay all the way in toyko+ski resort since it's our first time to Japan.
14 days in tokyo, with ski resort, disney land/sea and nearby places is not too long right?
