      Dear autolycus,

We would appreciate some advice from one who was in charge of intake.
What exactly are the requirements for successful candidates at ACSI-Express applying at S2 for S3 ACSI-IP in terms of academics achievement and extra-curricular activities etc.
My son did well this year, top the class in the STEM, A1 in Humanities only let down by a B3 in English.
      His school estimated L1R5 = 8
We gave up an IP place at VS after an encouraging meeting with the ACSI Principle to follow the express stream for S1 and S2 because we believed the holistic ACSI program is superior.

      Thanks for any help.

      Best Regards
Generally for lateral transfer S2E to S3IP, they're looking for 6 key subjects (L1, L2, Science, Maths, Humanities, one more) at 85% and above. If the general average is high enough, that will do too. The class teacher has to give a positive recommendation as well. CCA at this point should already be sufficient. Cheers!

We hope he improves his English Language next year but is the 85% cut off fixed because for some subjects he scores well above and for others he is a few percentage below. His average for S1E is above 80% but below 85%.
With an improvement in his English we believe he could achieve an L1R5 of 6 or 7 before bonus point deduction giving him an excellent chance of competing for a good Junior College.
We would value your opinion whether the S3/S4IP IB-Mid Year Programme better prepares the student and adds to the chances of better IB scores.

          Regards

If he can achieve an L1R5 of 6 points, he is also possibly competitive for admission to ACS(I)'s IB programme anyway. However, the other issue is preparation. I think the S3/S4 pre-IB programme does help in preparing students for the IB diploma programme itself. However, there are very motivated people who enter only at Y5 and do very well, so it's not a huge advantage, just a general one. 🙂

What are the textbooks listed? Sorry too lazy to find the booklist.
Tip: Don't bother to buy the math and science textbooks (if any). Won't need them anyway as they have their own notes. My boy's books were as good as new after 1 year. So i stopped buying them in Sec 2.
